Resolve Lite 9.1.3 Crash

PostMon May 20, 2013 6:46 pm

Hi to everyone,

I just download and install Davinci Resolve Lite and I having problem with it.
The software just crash after login panel.
This happen only after addind a new media location in the preferences panel.

If I install and run the software by default media location is C:/vol0 even if I create and log on a new disk data base on other drive, so I have tried to add disk in the preferences panel and then after restart the software crash after login!

Did somone have the same issue? And is there any solution to it?

Here is my PC configuration :

Windows 7 64bit
Asus m4a GTD pro usb3
AMD Phenom 1090T
Gainward phantom GTX 680 4Gb with last nvidia driver and last cuda drivers
Intensity pro with desktop video 9.7.2
16 Go Ram ddr3

By the looks of things you are only using the one graphics card.
Please refer to the system requirement recommendations on BMD website.
Cheers, Radman.

You say that my graphics is not compatible with resolve?

It's say in the Resolve_Win_Config_guide 2012 :

One or more NVIDIA CUDA capable cards for
image processing. The following certified cards
are listed in order of increasing power: Quadro
4000, Quadro 5000, Quadro 6000, Tesla C2075
and GeForce GTX 580 3072 MB & GeForce GTX
680 4096MB.

so the gtx 680 680 is well supported?

Yes, you speak english propper but not me. Sorry for that...

So I'm using one graphics card which is the GTX 680 4Gb and so what's matter I need more than one?

If you are building a system with only a single GPU
we recommend the fastest one you can justify.
Such as the GeForce GTX 580 with 3072MB ram.

You are using Resolve light.

Recommended:

1x graphics card for GUI.
1x graphics card for renders.

This is the ideal situation.

Please do a search on the forum and there is plenty about graphic card configurations.
Do a search on "CRASH" see what you come up with.
I am not familiar with AMD CPU's so maybe someone else can chip in here.
Just look at all the points with your hardware and how you have configured your system.
ie. Do you have a page file drive.
How have you configured your media drives.
Do you have latest Quicktime and Java installed etc...etc, drivers up to date.

Just some ideas to narrow down your issues. Make a check list.

Radman.

I never build a system, however:

It's say in the Resolve_Win_Config_guide 2012 :

One or more NVIDIA CUDA capable cards for
image processing

means you can do with one... (I'm not English either...)
W10-19043.1645- Supermicro MB C9X299-PGF - RAM 128GB CPU i9-10980XE 16c 4.3GHz (Oc) Water cooled
Decklink Studio 4K (12.3)
Resolve 18.5.1 / fusion studio 18
GPU 3090ti drivers 512.59 studio

Yes, I have never said you can not use one graphics card. Please read carefully!
I am suggesting ways of trying to solve your crashing problem.

Here is my storage config:

I have an SSD 60Go as local drive c:
where I install the os and all the working programmes like Avid MC, DS and the Adobe CS6 suite.
this disk got a 2Go page file
And i also have other Sata Hard disk Drive to store media (1To - 500Go)

All my hardware got there last driver update installed

Last Java and quicktime version are installed to

Firts thing I do after installing the software is creat a new disk data base on one of mine sata HDD
Seccond is set my account
Then enter the default project: there, the library folder is set to C:\vol0
So I open the DaVinci Resolve preferences menu and on the Media Storage pannel
I add a folder locate on the sata HDD
Click Save quit Resolve and restart it.
Login to my account and resolve crash on the project panel...

Here is the log generated by resolve if that can help...

Hi DiJ,

The information you have sent is very helpful.

I have a feeling your system might be under spec. But I am not familiar with most your components.
I have tried to help with the little time I have.

Hopefully there will be someone who will help you further.
Cheers, Radman.

Ps. What media are you working with or trying to work with?

Hi DiJ,

One more suggestion to head for as an idea.
Build machine.... Structure....

C:\ Win 64 bit
D:\ PageFile ( Fast drive )
E:\ Applications. ie Photoshop etc
D:\ Data. Quicktimes etc. ( Internal Sata raid drives )
E:\ External Media drives. ( SAS raid )

You could also add a fast swap drive for your applications.
Think of your computer like this and buy good quality Hitachi drives.

Good luck.
Radman.

I work on 1080p25 prores or DNxHD 185Mb files...

By saying "under spec." you mean not powerfull enought to run DaVinci?

Thanks for your storage config advice, I will think about it as soon as I solve my current issue...
But you really think that's necessary to assign ssd drive for page file when I have allready 16Gb RAM?
And also separate os from installed software?
What's the advantage of this config?

I think you call it experience!

One more TIP.
Always buy Intel and Nvidia.

Yes I know it's better for comptability with Intel/Nvidia but I start from an older config with AMD/Ati.
And as the phenom X6 is quite capable, I save money from bying new mother board and proc !
And read on forum that amd CPU and Nvidia GPU can work together so I go for the best Cuda card I can offer.
I also have an integrated Ati GPU on the mother board but it's say in the config guid that's not solution for GUI processing so I dont use it.

Hi,

So I have a clue on what's happen thanks to Noel on this thread:
http://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=7317&p=53213#p53213

This appear to be cause by the intensity pro...
Just get fresh install of resolve and this time when add HDD on media panel I also disable the intensity pro in the Video I/O Hardware and all work properly !!

But that mean that i can't be able to monitoring grading...
Is there no walk around for this? it's crazy that BMD device cause BMD software crash !!!

Hi,

We do not support AMD CPUs. Newer AMD CPUs with the SSSE3 instruction set might work, but we don't test or support this. Please make sure you are not using a AMD CPU.

By saying "We do not support AMD CPUs" you mean resolve does not support it? Or you don't give help to people running AMD?
In the resolve config guide couldn't see any warning about AMD CPU and there is also no CPU at all in the cerftified components list...
And my proc got SSE3 Instruction.
Morover I had found that's the probleme came from BMD intensity pro device monitoring there is no support for this?
The Intensity work like a charmed on Adobe and Avid but media express crash on imported clip...

AMD CPUs are not certified for Resolve. I dont have a config guide handy but I recall we do say in the config guides to use Intel CPUs.

We are far from subject,
Probleme don't came from CPU but is generated by the intensity pro card !

And to be more spécifique is the Preferences folder of Resolve and the config.dat file

I tried different solution :

if I edit the Local.gui.ENABLESDI parameter on line 67, passing it from 3 to 0 that make intensity still selected in the Video I/O Hardware panel but no images is sent to monitor.

Same resulte passing parameter from 3 to 1

passing from 3 to 2 make no crash on project panel but entering projet make resolve no respond

and stay in 3 make resolve crash after login

Please could somone help...

I'm having the same issue. I've never been able to succesfully use the Lite version of Davinci Resolve on my PC. It crashes every time and I've tried every possible configuration that has been suggested.

Hi,

Did you have an intel processor or an AMD?
Disabled the intensity card not make resolve work?
I hope you have an intel, if you don't we will never get hepl on this!
Just Hope that version 10 will be better...
