UltraStudio Mini problems with Premiere 2019 Mac

I've recently purchased the UltraStudio Mini recorder to capture the HDMI output of a Roland VR-4HD video mixer via thunderbolt cable. After installing the Desktop Video application I can see the unit is recognized and from Premiere CC 2019 I can open up the capture dialog and configure the settings to capture from the unit. However, after trying every combination of resolution and video format I have not been able to see any video coming through. I've tried with the HDMI output from the mixer, i've tried with the HDMI output from my SONY NX80 camera, still nothing. I'm close to giving up and returning the unit unless someone can steer me towards the BM light! I've also tried with a Premiere 2017 version via my Macbook. Still nothing. Any helpp will be appreciated.

If you can't make it work even with Blackmagic Media Express, the unit may be dead.
