Does it input on thunderbolt or it for control

A bit of both. External outputs should be ported to HDMI or SDI inputs for processing, but the Thunderbolt port is really for interface to resident software (example Resolve) to use as an output I/O device. As if it was a Decklink device.

I use a BMD UltraStudio4K supporting Scopebox on my iMac -- HDMI from my Decklink4K Extreme Resolve base station to the UltraStudio, which is controlled through the Thunderbolt interface. I can also run Resolve on the iMac and port a media stream back the other way from the UltraStudio to the main system input.
