understanding Decklink (extra monitor just for Dav.Res.?)

Hi!

Just one simple question:
if i connect a monitor to Decklink mini monitor 4k, i can just use it in Davinci Resolve for fullscreen, but NOT in other applications for example to work on some photos, isn't it?

So i need an extra monitor just for Davinci Resolve, if i don't want to reconnect it directly to my GPU for each time, i want to work with photos.

thanks
Alex

Well, many monitors have more than one input…

And then Decklink works with Fusion, Cinema4D, Photoshop and even After Effects. If your photos go into your videos, it's a good idea to check color accuracy.

thanks, that could be the solution:
HDMI from Decklink and Displayport or even DVI from GPU.

I work with open source Software (RawTherapee / GIMP), so i suppose that it doesn't work with Decklink.

That's what I do too, HDMI and Display Port.

is it correct, that the Decklink card does not relieve my GPU by working on movie stuff? It just gives me a fullcreen.

It just gives you a reference screen.
It's not an accelerator card like in the old days, that's all done by the GPU now.

thanks!

Then one more question:
did i understand it correctly, that the decklink gives me the "real" 10bit 4:2:0/4:2:2/4:4:4 signal and not my GPU (GTX 970)?

Well, both can give you a 'real' image in the range of technical standards they support, but only the Decklink can give you a 'realistic' image. If you use a regular graphics card to connect a monitor, the OS can (and will) mess around with it, while Resolve is sending its data straight into the Decklink without any interference by the OS.
