Avid MC 6 and Black Magic

PostMon Sep 10, 2012 8:51 pm

Just wanted to start a chat here if any one can help.

There have been a lot of people on Avid forums talking about the following issue and Avid are very quiet and have said nothing.
I wanted to see if any one from Black Magic could help.

THE ISSUE

Avid Media Composer and Black Magic Decklink HD Extreme 3D do not work together as Avid had advertised.
When using the HD extreme card Avid becomes unusable in trim mode and color correction mode.
In general the whole software slows down making it useless.

Here is a link to one of the forums and as you can see no one from avid has piped up on the subject.,
http://community.avid.com/forums/t/1117 ... ageIndex=1

I do feel this is a avid problem as they have advertised that the software and hardware work together, but so has black magic.

Clearly this is not the case and be great to get a answer from at least one of these companies on whats going on with ways to fix this massive issue.

Media Composer 6.5 just came out and has the same issues even reports of it being worse!

Please can someone from BM inform us editors and colourist what is happening?

Cheers
Mikee

Hi Mike,
I have Symphony 6.0.3 and BlackMagic Decklink HD Extreme 3D
And yes It's slow and heavy especially in CC mode.
I'm having this problem since 6.0.1 which was even worse version with
many many crashes and since 6.0.1.1 it's more stable but still very slow and heavy.
6.5 did not fix this problem it only has few new features which not all of us need and it cost 500$.
If you haven't upgraded yet don't upgrade because it wont help you.
Avid promised to keep on making new bug fixing for 6.0.x users.
As I understand it's not BlackMagic or Matrox hardwares problem (I had MXO2 Mini as well and with the same problems) It's an Avid issue. We all hope Avid will find the solution and 6.0.X and 6.5 will be as fast and easy as 5.5.

And ...... there are STILL problems with tape capture/playout accuracies.... I continue to use FCP7 for that very reason.

I've been having the same issues since MC6 came out. Very slow trimming and color correcting. It is really frustrating that so much time has gone by and we are not much better off from the first release of MC6. Does Black Magic even acknowledge the issue? Do we know if they are working with Avid to fix this? Is there any expectation on how much longer we will have to wait?

I realize this is not entirely Blackmagic's fault, however I am starting to regret investing in this Decklink card.
