Updating my iMac following Mojave incompatibility with cuda

PostMon Feb 04, 2019 1:39 pm

Hi everyone!

I had the bad idea to update my 27inch iMac 2013 to Mojave and discovered that it was not supported by Nvidia Cuda!!

Therefore I'm on the market to be able to work on DaVinci again.

Should I invest in a mac mini and a eGPU that I could plug to my iMac 2013 serving as a monitor or should I invest in a new iMac? If the latter, should I go for the i5 or i7? Should I get 8 or 16gigs of ram?
I need the most affordable option so thanks in advance for your help guys!

Ps: or even just the mac mini if it'd work for UHD with HD proxies. Thanks

Well, what I would do in your case is just downgrade, or is there anything in Mojave you need desperately?

But if you feel like having an excuse to invest and 4K output is in your future, I'd consider a PC. Seriously! I write that as a die-hard Mac user.

Using your iMac as a monitor is not a great solution. The new Mac Mini is a capable machine, but only with the eGPU. Doesn't necessarily need to be the one from BM, there are cheaper options. Look here www.egpu.io
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

Studio 18.6.5, MacOS 13.6.5
MacBook M1 Pro, 16 GPU cores, 32 GB RAM and iPhone 15 Pro
Speed Editor, UltraStudio Monitor 3G, iMac 2017, eGPU
