8x 1080p 60fps Multicam performance issues

PostFri Apr 12, 2019 6:59 pm

Hi Folks!

I hope to fit the right forum - if not please move this topic.

I finally made a nice live-gig-recording with a Bluesrock Band and 9 GoPro Cams.
I recorded in 1080p 60fps and now I got something around 500GB of material.

I grabbed the first clip of each cam, synced it and started to do my first multicam cut. It's stucking very hard.

I created a 1/4 Proxy Media. That works but it's hard to see lots of details...
Is there anything I can do different?

The Codec ist H.264. We're talking 'bout ~45MB/s.

My System:
Hackintosh Mojave
Intel I5 6700K 3,5 Ghz
16GB RAM
1TB NVME SSD
RX580 4G

SSD I/O is not the problem. I was thinking about a second RX580 or a Vega64.

But I get a very high load on my CPU as the H.264 Codec is decompressed by CPU only.

Can you recommend a more GPU friendly codec I can convert my clips to?

Thanks a lot!

Or Cineform on PC. With Cineform you can use full quality at HD and then switch preview to 1/2 resolution.

This is a better option. I forgot Cineform lets you lower quality on the Edit page.

Hmm - as I mentioned above, I'm running a Hackintosh.

I'm generating the ProRes Proxy Media right now.
I'll give you an feedback how it performs.

Thanks!

Here we go:

I first set the proxy settings to automatic and the ProRes422 Proxy format.
It's a bit stucking... But much better.

Next try is set to a half with ProRes 422 Proxy.

But for the first time my GPU got something to do...

You need better CPU for this. And then it may end up that GPU is to weak :)
Switch your project to half HD and then GPU will be less stressed.
