Candle Test?

PostWed Sep 12, 2012 2:50 am

Does anyone here have or know how to re-create the Candle test for GPUs in Resolve?
I would like to try and test using any of the BMCC DNG downloads.

I am missing the QT movie. Gonna have to hunt for that disc at work.

If you have access to a Mac, and to the Resolve 8.2.2 dmg file, run that. You can copy the QT movie out from the installer window. Then close the installer.

The V9 code has different sample files included, so you can't get the Candle QT from that.

Cool, i'm using lite so couldn't run the NR tests but here are my results -

Hackintosh osx 10.7.4 - Sandy bridge 3.4ghz i7 - 16gig of ram - MSI gtx580, EVGA gtx550ti (display).

V1 - 24fps
V2 - 24fps
V3 - 14 fps
V4 - 7 fps
V5 - 4 fps
V6 - NA

I've put the Candle QT here:

(Dwaine - please let me know if this isn't okay and i'll remove it - thanks!)

Thanks Dwaine but Ive tried that and none of the movies from old and new seem to link with the XML files.
Can you be more specific as to which files they are?
The most recent seems to be training videos.
Is there a way to set this up using the John Brawley DNG files?
I would rather test RAW than ProRes files.

If you want to just test your system, import the DNG files into the media pool and copy the grades over from the Candle test. It's not gonna give you numbers that you can compare to other people's systems though since the candle test is a standard way of testing gpu pipelines with minimal harddrive stress that people can compare.

But if you do it, let us know what file you use and anyone else interested in comparing to your results can test with the same file/node trees. :)

Can you help me step by step replace the blank file with the DNG sequence please :)
I tried to even replace with the 01412968.mov but couldnt get it going under 8.2.2 :(

Oh for sure :)
With the current new crop of Resolve users due to the Cinema Camera, there are a few wanting these results posted :)

To relink the candle file i right-clicked the file in the media pool and chose "change source folder".. then in the "to" field i selected where i have the file. But also remember people are now trying to compare resolve v9, v8 could have different results.

I'm not sure of a fast way to copy all versions of a grade to another file, but i would just import the clip into the media pool, then choose a version of the grade from the original candle clip and copy it to the new clip. If someone knows how to copy all versions at once, please let me know!

I tried John Brawly's "shot 1" and got this:

V1 - 24fps
V2 - 20fps
V3 - 12fps
V4 - 7fps
V5 - 3.5fps
V6 - NA
