Are DeckLink 8K Pro outputs independent?

Do you have questions about Desktop Video, Converters, Routers and Monitoring?

Are DeckLink 8K Pro outputs independent?

PostTue Apr 16, 2019 4:25 pm

Hey,

My company is looking to buy DeckLink 8K Pro cards.
I'm looking at everything I can find (Tech Specs, manual, software SDK...)
but still don't know whether outputs can be configured independently.
(Only interested in video output!)

So could I for example show HD video in SDI 1 and UHD video on SDI 2?

This forum post says "no" but talks mostly about input: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=76565

However the "Duo 2" and "Quad 2" do allow this, no?
"... that developers can use for configuring the card in any combination of up to 8 capture or 8 playback channels..."

Also the "DesktopVideoManual.pdf" has a section "Connector Mapping for DeckLink Quad 2". Which makes me suspect at least the Quad 2 allows this.

Please help me out!

Yes. This feature is quite new, and came in an update from this month.

That's fantastic! Any experience with it? Does it work well?

From the 11.1 release notes:
New features on DeckLink 8K Pro:
- Add support for up to 4 independent I/O channels via the DeckLink SDK.[/quote]

Does anyone know where in the SDK I can read about this?
What functions in the SDK are related to this?
There is talk about 'sub-devices'. Is that it?

Yes, as of the Desktop Video 11.0 firmware update, the DeckLink 8K Pro it works like the DeckLink Duo 2 but each connector is 4K/Ultra HD capable (rather than just being HD capable like on the Duo 2).

In the SDK documentation, the configuration of the different channels are described in the Configurable duplex mode section. Each sub-device can be configured to be full duplex (with one connector for input and one for output), in which case you would have a maximum of two sub-devices or channels on the card.

Or you can configure the sub-devices as half-duplex (using just a single input or just a single output connector). You would then have up to 4 independent channels.

This configuration of the connectors/sub-devices is possible via the Desktop Video setup utility in addition to being configurable through the SDK.
