Bmpcc4k losing connection to Olympus 12-100 lens

PostTue Apr 16, 2019 9:44 pm

Hi everyone!

I have intermittent problems where the Bmpcc4k loses connection with Olympus 12-100 lens. The autofocus won’t work (IS will) unless I turn camera off and then on again. That’s the fix.

Also, when this happens, whether the focus by wire is engaged or the (fake?) manual clutch, neither will focus. Focusing by hand or by app or by screen do not work.

Just curious if anyone else has had this problem?

I’m running firmware 6.1

Thanks!
Brian

Disconnect the lens then put it back on. when in correct position press and release the lens release. That worked for me.

Yes, I am having that problem from time to time. But I can still focus by hand regardless of the position of the clutch. I think it has something to do with the contact points of the mount but I have not found a way to reproduce the behavior at will (which would make it possible to find a fix).

Thanks for your replies! Yeah, I can’t reproduce at will either. I’ll try detaching and reattaching lens to see if that fixes it. Is this to be attempted while camera is on or off?

Normally it is better to turn off camera before detaching the lens.

As far as I remember the issue appeared most of the time when I was doing handheld work and did operate the lens all the time - so it might be a mechanical problem. My MFT mount has a bit of wiggle room in it.

Here I have the same issue and I know at least more 3 people that have it too!!! So I think that´s not a mechanical problem... It happens from time to time, in a intermitent way.... like 1 or 2 times per job... Maybe that´s something BM can adress up via pocket 4k firmware updates? well hope any BM Guy can read and help us :)

Hi...as I Said I had the same issue with oly 12-100, but I'm happy to say I solved it by updating the lens firmware. (Mine was at v1.1... so I updated to v1.3 - the last until now. But To update you will need a panasonic or olympus camera body. you CAN NOT update via Bmpcc4k. Good luck people!

I just got the lens earlier this month and noticed that when I have it in manual focus and I zoom out at a very slow speed, the focus gets all locked up as you described. I was able to replicate it at the the wide end of the lens. Usually between 12-20mm. A camera reboot or resetting the lens generally works. Freaked me out the first time it happed though.

Is the firmware on the lens up-to-date?

Olympus has released a few updates for that one - just a thought...
