Decklink Mini Monitor 4k SDI output to FSI CM171 Issues

PostWed May 08, 2019 4:48 pm

I'm running into issues trying to output from my Decklink Mini Monitor 4K to my FSI CM171 via a direct SDI cable using Davinci Resolve Studio 15. The issue also persists in Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2019.

The screen will cycle through RGB and white and black full screen patches. Sometimes it shows picture but with crazy glitches.

Here is a google drive link to me recording my screen opening different projects with Resolve and with premiere pro.

A couple months ago I was using this exact same computer, cable and decklink set up and was running SDI out to a BMD 6G SDI to HDMI converter to my HDMI Eizo CG2420 with no issues at all. I have now sold the Eizo and 6G converter so I can't test it again.

Running Windows 10 & Davinci Resolve Studio 15
AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
16GB DDR4 RAM
ASUS ROG Strix X470-F
970 Evo M.2 250GB

One of my projects is set up like this....

Source/Timeline Footage is Sony A7sii 3840x2160 29.97fps

I reached out to both BMD Support and FSI last night, still waiting for responses. I'm guessing my settings are off somewhere but I can't figure out where. I've kind of just ran through and clicked so many different combinations but nothing seems to make a clean image.

Has anyone encounter similar problems?

Why are you using dual link?
1080 29.97p does not need dual link for 4:4:4 support (50/59.94p does).
Switch to single link and also when using 4:4:4 then to Full Data Levels.
Then if still no help try for test turning off 4:4:4 (then switch SDI to Level A if still not good).
If I'm correct Resolve overwrites setting in BM panel, so you use Resolve preferences. BM panel settings will be used when monitoring with Premiere though.
Can you get anything reliably to your monitor over BM card? With Resolve, Premiere, MediaExpress?
Did you try 2nd input on FSI?
Also check monitor status- what it says about incoming signal?

Thanks for your help Andrew, I did try your suggestions and they didn't solve the issues.

I ended up following instructions from FSI support and removing the back chassis to disconnect and then reconnect the LVDS cable and that actually fixed my issue. They think maybe during shipment it got bumped and came loose. It shipped from LA to their RMA/Service department in GA and then to me in NY.

I'll follow up in a couple days after actual usage to see if the issues come back.

Ok, so it's just loose cable :)
You still don't need Dual Link for 30p and probably better to use Full Range (although range info travels over SDI as metadata).
