Screen is black, intensity shuttle

So I have the intensity shuttle but when it is capturing in the media express it is usually black. However it works occasionally. When it does work, whenever I switch programs or click on something else, the capturing stops, but when I switch back to media express it starts capturing again. Anybody know how to fix this?
