Why does my audio record button dont go on?

well I patched my audio outputs and my microphon right. I can hear myself talking. But when I press the red record button, the record button goes automaticly off. ive seen videos where the record button stays red and on. but not for me. WOuld be nice to hears some tips !

you might want to expand your question a bit...perhaps what software you're talking about?

Nobody can help with a vague post that simply says "this dosn't work"

And what hardware is used to connect your mic to your computer.
