DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K LUT?

PostFri Jun 21, 2019 9:04 pm

Hi guys
as in the title...is there a way to send the 4k HDMI signal with a 3D LUT?

my idea is to approach the OLED 55" TV, well calibrated, with DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K 6G

to have a LUT on the TV i probably should use the SDI to HDMI 6G that let's me load 2 custom LUTs from USB

i'm wandering if it possible to do the same without this box...maybe just with drivers in the DeckLink or custom applications...or what else....i just suppose

thanks for any answer

My suggestion is that you embed the display LUT in the monitor itself and not try to do it externally. There are advantages to having it live in the monitor and not within Resolve or in an external box. The C-series LG OLEDs (C7, C8, C9) and higher all have the ability to store 33x33 display LUTs provided by calibration software.

hi Mark thanks for your reply

yes i got an LG C8 and because i'm not rich enough i bought a Xrite i1 Display Pro for calibration...other solutions are way way more expensive

is this good combination?

You need the OEM version as far as I know.

Hi Ian i see from the producer website that they recommend the OEM RevB that has higer performances

i had a quick chat with them as well and they suggest to use the LightSpace LTE software for calibration that costs twice the probe....

is that fundamental?? or i can have the same results with DisplayCAL that is free?

calibration is going to cost more that the Reference monitor itself....

You can rent the software, can’t you? That sounds like an extremely cheap reference monitor.

it is a good compromise for a 10 bit color grading at 4K

it needs some time for correctly calibrating colors but for the money i can spend it's totally fine setup

and about the rent of softeware...i don't think it is possible but will consider this option if tools like DisplayCAL and the internal ColorCalobration tool from Davinci will fail

You could check with the Light Illusion people and see what they say:

Our technician uses Calman, which is an equally valid way to calibrate monitors, but because of the expense of high-end probes, we find it makes more sense for us to just hire an engineer and have them do it once a year or so.

Hi Mark

i already did my calibration with displayCAL and a good probe

what i need is to know how to load the 33x33 lut on the TV

when i'll be reacher will hire a specialized person to do an even better calibration...but for now i have to do it by myself...plus it is ever good to learn the basics of any aspect of the job, it helps to understands things in depht..i beleave

i have one more question, about project preferences, in the MasterSettings> Video Monitoring >Data Levels - is it ok to use FULL with this TV connected with Decklink4K at 10Bit?
the default is set to VIDEO but with full i can see a big improvement in the visualization

You can use the mini converter SDI to HDMI 6G in between your monitor and your card. That has an option to save 2 luts.

No other way, just buy it.

Hi Diede that was my original idea but Mark told me that with the LG C8 i can load a LUT directly into the TV avoiding to use other tools

i had a search on the web to realize how to load the LUT into the LG C8 but i can't find anything so i'm courious to know how to do it

It's not Calman only - you can use Device Control without Calman, as I understand it.
