New PC for Resolve 15/16 and Fusion: Intel vs AMD

PostWed Jun 26, 2019 5:40 pm

Hi,

I am going to build a new PC, but I cannot decide between an Inte i9 core and a AMD Ryzen Threadripper. I would like to save money as much as possible, but I am actually scared to use a AMD CPU or AMD GPU.

If you had the choice and not the budget, what would you go for?

1) Intel i9 + RTX2080 Ti
2) Intel i9 + some high end Radeon GFX

3) AMD Ryzen Threadripper+ RTX2080 Ti
4) AMD Ryzen Threadripper + some high end Radeon GFX

I've heard a lot of nightmare stories about AMD stuff, that it won't work as good as Intel/Nvidia.

Any experiences?

What do you want to do with your PC?
What kind of software are you going to use, what kind of source material are you going to use, etc...

Just a CPU test with DR15 https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/DaVinci-Resolve-15-CPU-Roundup-Intel-vs-AMD-vs-Mac-1310/

And a GPU test with DR15 https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/DaVinci-Resolve-15-AMD-Radeon-VII-16GB-Performance-1382/

When you do max 6k, the Ryzen 9 3900x might be a good option and it's cheap compared to other CPU's.

When you do upto 4k editing/grading get atleast a GPU with 8 GB of RAM for normal effects, when you do a lot of TNR get a GPU with more and faster VRAM.
