Hope I can reinstall 14.3

PostTue Apr 17, 2018 4:28 pm

In 15 moving the cursor in the timeline stops the visual display of the clip, everything else still works like File Save, just hangs up on last frame before the "balk."

Twice I have tried to DELIVER a vid. First time got a Dropped frame message at frame 38,301 and at 84% rendered. Second time, same message AND the same frame 38,301 but only 34% had rendered...

Windows 10 64bit. I am going to remove the program and install 14.3 again, hope it works.

I thought 15 would install itself as another program in a separate Folder leaving 14.3 Studio where it was, not write over it. 15 IS a beta after all.

+1 for wanting/expecting it to co-reside with v14. Presumably on a beta-only copy of the DB

I think if would be very useful to be able to do this.

I would certainly like to be able to test v15 but for the moment is very unstable and I can't have them both on my computer at the same time. That is a big limitation for the pool of possible beta testers.

IMO, not going to happen because of the common system resources install and the quite different formats for DBs. Would need different system boot disks as far as I can see (I have however had past success with dual installs of resolve Free and Studio on a mac).

In any case, a clean install of either 14 or 15 is relatively straightforward. Obviously, do backup the DB using the backup database tool or keep media folders and projects /xml saved standalone. A good thread on that elsewhere in this forum.

it can be done, not supported and you are taking risks by doing so, if you will accept the risks it's pretty trival to run them on the same partition side by side

How do we ask Resolve/BMD policy questions like this?

I know many more people would try the Beta if it didn't break their normal environment. Some companies would like to get the extra feedback from users who aren't willing or able to make a machine Beta-only or go through hoops - like dual-boot - just to give it a try.

So again, how do we ask Company Policy questions like this and receive actual company positions rather than the personal opinions of whoever responds to the thread?

Staff have addressed this matter in the past. They discourage the practice, not least of all because of the difficulty of managing incompatible DB formats. And truth is, there doesn't seem to be any shortage of public beta testers.

Dual installations on a single partition may still be possible on on Mac (if you work at it; the installer won't seek to make it easy) but, to the best of my knowledge, hasn't been possible on Windows for quite a while now.
