(B3) Dublicating Timelines and can't rename them

PostWed May 22, 2019 1:40 pm

Dublicating Timelines and can't rename them:(

Only original naming + Copy 1, Copy 2, Copy 3 (I love it more than "Copy of" but want to rename few timelines)

I've no problem renaming the duplicated Timelines in 16b3 on Windows. The Right Click>Rename works as expected.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Rename works ok here. 16b3
I go to the media page, double click (slowly) on the timeline name and type...
1st click selects. 2nd allows rename
Click too quick opens that timeline.

Easier would be a right click menu with DUPLICATE (or copy ) timeline and RENAME

And please fix the pull down timeline names in the record viewer. Alphabetical at the very least.

But does it show the new name in the timeline drop down menu? That’s the issue here.

RC -> Rename?? There is no "rename" -option in the rc-menu.

Jim, that "rename" menu option does not exist on my Mac 16b3 unless I have created a TIMELINES bin before importing media and creating a timeline.

Projects without a TIMELINES bin do not have this option

you get that menu when right clicking on timelines that are in a Timelines bin (as set in Project Settings/General Options/Color)

I'm still getting the bug even if I have a Timelines bin though, and no matter which method I use to rename a copy timeline

On macOS you can also select the Timeline in any Media Pool and hit return, the Timeline name will highlight (with a red box) and select the text string, allowing the Timeline to be renamed.

The enter key on the numpad does not provide this option.

Same here with an old DR15 Project!

Only in the Media Pool and the exported file (use Timeline name) the name is right!

WIN 10

Cheers!

I can confirm that after duplicating and renaming a timeline in 16b3 (16.0.0B.028) that the new name is not propagated in the "Timeline Switcher" (on top of the viewing monitor) as you can see in my screenshot.

It worked as expected in 16b2, I use it all the time.

I'm on Mac OS 10.14.4.

Works as expected for me. I have noticed that the Mac OSX users with a rename issue are all on Mojave & users without an issue are on High Sierra. Since Win10 users are also experiencing this issue, could it be OS related?

I'm experiencing the same issue with renaming. I click on the name in the Edit page's media pool, type the new name and the new name appears in the media pool, but in the record viewer the new name doesn't show. I see "Timeline name copy" there instead of the nw name.

Seeing same issue in R16b3. Rename works in timelines bin but not in drop down. Also adding a timeline corrector (i.e. making whole film black & white) to cut 4 (which was a copy of cut 3), when I duplicate timeline by copy/pasting I get a cut3_copy without the black & white effect.

Not sure if this is related but keystroke shortcuts stop working too (e.g. shift 1, 2, 6, 8 for switching workspaces).

I merge the other thread to this one:

thank for putting back the [copy] at the end of the timeline. much appreciated.

I have a timeline called [something_st1], seleceted and in the main edit space. double click in the [media pool] (edit page) and drop down menu [duplicate timeline] it create [something_st1 copy].

I renamed that [something_else_st2]

select [something_else_st2] with a double click

ask for [edit - Duplicate timeline]

I get [something_st1 copy 1]

Why? It is duplicating the first timeline in the stack instead of the one selected... that's bad.

even if I select the timeline I want to duplicate [something_else_st2] and I preform a [cntrl-C - V] i still see [something_st1 copy 2]

no, it's duplicating the one you want it to duplicate, it just disregards the new name you gave it

the name in the delivery drop down menu is inconsistent with the name of the timelines, correlated with the copy timeline name issue above

I too have this problem.

In the media page I copy the timeline 1
and then rename timeline 1 copy to short edit.
The file in the media page show the correct new name as short edit
but the active timeline in Resolve is showing it as timeline 1 copy :(

This is getting very confusing with my current project as I have renamed 3 timelines so far.
Thank you

I'm having this same issue.

Renaming the timeline populates everywhere except in the source record monitors, which retain the old name.

It's very annoying and makes it difficult to know if I'm working with the right sequence.

I also am seeing this behavior...

When I use the "Duplicate Current Timeline" command in the edit menu, with timeline as my focus, naming works correctly. It changes and shows up in the right places with new name.

If I use the "Duplicate Timeline" command that shows up when the media pool in in focus -or- use copy/paste to duplicate a timeline, the naming does NOT work correctly. The new name does not show up in the timeline tabs.

Thanks.

I just updated to DRS 16 Beta 4 and opened a project with 12 duplicated timelines and the problem with the names being displayed as copies in the edit tab still exists.

But the duplicated timelines with correctly renamed names are displayed in the media pool.

Hello Peter -

I just tried it with a new project and it still doesn't seem to work. Checkout my video screen grab of this issue.

Not trying to devalue the work behind software development and the workers doing the job, but to me, these kind of, well reported "minor" bugs surviving a software update... Hard to swallow.
