Hi,
Did you checked the option "Use System Audio Output" if not
Go to :
Preferences ----> Video I/O and GPU ---->Use System Audio Output

mmmm interesting.... it could be a bug

Remove DR - double-click the Uninstall Resolve icon from the DaVinci Resolve folder in Applications.
and try a new fresh installation "DR 12.5 Beta 2" and see if it's working .

try to run Repair Verify Disk Permissions

Open the Terminal application (found in /Applications/Utilities/) and use the following syntax to verify a volumes permissions, this will verify the default root volume of a Mac:

sudo /usr/libexec/repair_packages --verify --standard-pkgs /

restart and I hope it will solve your problem!

I have been editing my video with sound for the past few hours and now when I get to the last clip I need to do sound on I have the same problem as mentioned here. I tried all the same things (except I'm on PC so the sudo command thing is irrelevant), Re-installing, restarting, everything.

I have a hard deadline of tomorrow night to get this video done and I can't go back to regular version 12 since my project will not show up PLEASE HELP!!!

I figured out my sound issue. Somehow the player got muted so I unmuted it. I noticed the button on the cinema viewer (ctrl+f) was muted so I unmuted it and I have sound again. I'm 99% sure I didn't mute it though...

The audio works for every application, but resolve. I have tried so many things for it to work, I am giving up. I was hoping I could get some assistance, especially from an employee. What happens is I hit the start button to play the clips, but no sound is emitted by my headphones or speaker. Thanks
I have 14, not beta.

Just encountered this problem myself.

I have Mac OSX 10.13.2, DR Studio 14.1.1.005

I was working on a project and doing final tweaking and lost all audio from DR. All other applications still have sound. I tried restarting DR, loading completed projects, I checked that nothing was muted (on GUI or Viewer mode), I switched to Fairlight Tab but no sound from DR under any circumstances.

What I did immediately prior to losing all audio was to go into preferences and change the default transition duration. I suspect something in the preferences has gone screwy when I changed the setting but I'll continue with the painful process of restarts/reinstallations/etc and report back if I find a fix.

(Edit: I should add that DR performance seems to have taken a huge hit too, I was playing at ~23+fps and some parts are down to 6fps now with huge lag after I hit play)

What's next?

My sound is now fixed. I have no idea what changed, I left the computer to go do something else and it went to sleep. I thought of another thing to try, woke it up, ran DR and it works fine.

This is probably *not* what's causing all the issues in this thread, but I've noticed since DR14 that audio playback will regularly mute itself when switching between timelines in either the Edit or Delivery pages. I had a bunch of long renders a few weeks ago that needed to be redone because the sound simply didn't write to the output file. Toggling sound on either of those pages has no effect, it's like the system just forgets to process the audio mix.

The workaround I've found has been (when this occurs and I randomly lose audio playback): go to either the Fairlight or Color page, toggle the mute button on that page, then switch to the page I was trying to work on (either Edit or Delivery) and audio playback will return. This only seems to work on Fairlight & Color for some reason, other pages don't respond to any commands related to audio until you've gone back to either of those pages and re-enabled it.

This bug doesn't seem to happen on every project, but it's consistent enough that I'm now always checking for it before rendering anything (or if I'm trying to make changes on the Edit page).

I have the same problem with Resolve on a win7 OS machine. I tried anything without success. For some reason audio is a problem for resolve. In the media room it shows there is audio and the meters give signal, but in the edit room the meters show nothing and there is no sound. I think it is a bug.

Hi,

If you've exhausted all options above and are running Resolve on a PC then the following may get you back on track. This concept may work for OSX users.

- First, close all windows/apps then launch a web browser of your choice.
- Next, launch resolve, open your project, and bring up a nice chunk of clip that you know to have audio. Allow the clip to play. (audio meters should be bouncing)
- Be sure your audio output device is set to a medium level.
- As the clip in your project continues to play, press and hold the right "Alt" key then tap the "Tab key once. This should allow you to step out of Resolve and into the web browser you opened earlier.
- While in your web browser, navigate your mouse to the small speaker icon located on the lower/right corner of the task bar. Right click on the speaker icon and select "Open Volume Mixer"
- With the Volume Mixer open, locate the audio track on the mixer that is assigned to Resolve.
- Give the volume slider on the Resolve track a little jiggle.
This should pop your sound right back in there.

Cheers!

I have no sound either. Have tried everything. Meters were moving now they don't. Nowhere in the preferences does it give an option for sound output via computer or sound card. Weirdly when I render the movie the sound exports ok.??? very glitchy software

I thought I had that issue as well until I remembered something. Being a musician, most of what I do is audio recording and the vast majority of my projects are recorded at 24bit / 96 KHz, so the default for my audio interface (focusrite 18i20) is set to that. If I have been recording or mixing earlier that day, I have to turn the focusrite off and back on in order to get sound from anything at a different bit depth & samplerate.

Just a stab in the dark.

There's something seriously wrong with the audio engine in Resolve.

I was editing last night, quit (while on the Color page), relaunched it tonight (same audio interface as always, same settings, no change from last night) and no audio playback in Color, Edit, or Media pages - but audio plays just fine on the Fairlight page (just as it does outside of Resolve). Relaunching Resolve multiple times does not help. Turning the Mixer panel on and off does not help. Reloading the timeline (switching to another timeline and back) does not help. Quitting (and saving) from the Fairlight page and relaunching does not help. I can see the meters bouncing, but there is no audio playback.

It's very difficult to get work done when this sort of thing happens.

I had this same problem a couple months ago. I was able to fix it by right clicking on the clip and selecting "clip attributes". Then i went to the audio tab and changed the format around. My clips had 8 audio tracks so i changed it to "mono" and changed the number of tracks to 8 and i was able to get audio from the main timeline. Hope it helps.

Yeah same here on DR 15.0b1
It was fine with 14.2, but with 14.3 it was okay for a few seconds before video and audio became glitchy and then it came to a complete halt.
Now in 15.0b1 there's no sound whatsoever, even though the meter is jumping up and down.
There's nothing wrong with sound on other apps etc.
What's the point in having great colour and now Fusion tools when they can't get basics like sound right?
Dear oh dear.

Just hope they get it RESOLVED soon (groan).

Hey so i tried something and it worked! May help or may not but here we go.

Go to the Divinci Resolve tab at the top, then go to Preferences then go to Video and Audio I/O, then go to Speaker Setup, and under Speaker Configuration click use System Setting.

That's what worked for me. Note that i didn't change this before, it did it by itself.

Solution

I looked it up on a different thread in this forum and the solution, if you're on Windows 7 is to...
1. Go to the "Speaker" icon in the task bar at the bottom of your screen. Right click on it and select...
2. "Playback devices" - when you're in there click on "speakers" at the top of the list and select...
3. "Properties" down near the bottom of the window. The "Speaker Properties" window pops up and you select the...
4. "Advanced" tab at the top and in the "Default Format" section, you select "16 bit 48000 Hz (DVD quality).
5. Press Play to test it if you like.

Go back to Resolve and import, then play a file and voila, it'll play audio.

I had my settings at 41000 Hz, which is why it didn't play back.

Resolve is set at 48000 Hz.

Problem solved.

Hope it works for you.

I just had this problem come up for me (again), this time in DR 15.0.0.086 and the fix was to change the above setting from Use System Setting (which was what it was set to) to Manual and then back again. Audio came back when I switched to Manual, but I want the system settings so switched back.

I wasn't getting any audio in the meters when I played various clips. It looks like the settings go a bit screwy and this is a way to reset them to good values again.

Interesting. I have no sound and unfortunately the audio interface I'm using doesn't support 48000 Hz, only 44100 Hz. But with previous Resolve versions (12-14) this wasn't an issue. Also, if you open a 48000 Hz in vlc or audacity, you can actually hear the sound, so my guess is these apps (as well as previous Resolve versions) have some kind of on the fly sample rate converter.

I'm on linux, so it's good news that system audio is supported now, but it's bad news that only 48000 Hz sample rate is supported.

I still have to find out how to work with audio because for some reason I can't get sound out of my DeckLink Mini Monitor either, but that's a different story. The audio is there, because if I render and playback the file in vlc, you can actually hear the audio.

Anyway, will keep investigating.

it think, this other applications, which use a more flexible kind of audio access (portaudio in many cases), which prioritize output via pulsaudio instead of raw ALSA diver access. pulsaudio doesn't only handle simultaneous output for many active desktop applications, it also supports ob the fly resampling. you can even install pulsaudio-extensions to handle/simulate raw ALSA driver accessibility via this framework -- i.e. enable resampling for resolve as well.

nevertheless it isn't a very nice solution because resampling always lessens the quality and entails additional latency. i therefor would purchase some some kind of USB audio device, which is well supported by ALSA, instead.

Sorry for the confusion: Most of the time I'm on Linux but the on the fly resample I was talking about happened on Windows (I have a dual boot), and happened with previous versions of Resolve. The latest (v15) versions won't resample at all (neither on Linux nor on Windows).

Will try the ALSA trick but I think is not possible. I'm not concerned by the quality degradation if it's only for monitoring.
