Match Frame Multicam

PostWed Jun 20, 2018 5:27 pm

One feature I often miss from Premiere Pro is the ability to Match Frame into a Multicam clip, such that the Multicam timeline opens on the same frame. The Open in Timeline feature does not respect the current playhead position.

I'd love to get that incorporated into 15.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I'll second that! Please implement some way of matching frame from timeline to multicam clip.

+1 for playhead sync on Open In Timeline.

When Open in Timeline is activated in a timeline with a nested timeline, Fusion Clip, Compound Clip or Multicam Clip selected, the playhead position should be (optionally) at the correct frame when the destination timeline/clip becomes visible.

I am working with a bunch of Fusion Clips and have needed this feature a lot.

Currently I fudge this by switching my Viewer to Source Timecode, which means on the enclosing timeline viewer I see what timecode is at that frame inside the current nested clip. Then when I do Open In Timeline I need to remember that timecode and type it in, or manually move my playhead to that position

Sadly it's not even possible to do Copy Timecode then Paste Timecode because Copy Timecode always copies the Record Timecode, even if the viewer is set to display Source Timecode.

Damn, still don't have this in 17. C'mon BMD.

Here, here! BMD please add this functionality.

When you have complex Fusion clips and title sequences in nested timelines - this feature could save quite a few of us hours, yes, hours each week.

Jim, thanks for the re-direct here.

On my system whatever is selected in the timecode entry box is copied to the clipboard. I can't replicate your issue. However when I PASTE the source timecode to the 'opened in timeline' timecode entry box, the record viewer updates but the timeline cursor does NOT update. If I use the L/R arrows to move a frame the cursor updates. This appears to be a bug.

BMD, please give us a way to do this: jump from editing timeline to multicam timeline with match frame. Otherwise it is impossible to work on long multicam edits. Please!
I requested this elsewhere with a different heading, not knowing that this was already requested here.

Wow! This is a (stopgap) lifesaver. Thank you Peter Cave! At least I can copy and paste the timecode and use L/R arrow to go there!

I'd love to see the functionality added of being able to maybe CMD+Double Click on a multicam clip and then have it 'Open in timeline' with matched frame.

Coming from Premiere this is a really nice feature, being able to easily jump into any nested / multicam clip, and be in the correct frame, just by doing that CMD+Double Click.

Bumping this so it gets seen. Would very much appreciate this feature. I switched over from Premiere to Resolve and being able to match the play head position when clicking into a compound clip or nested timeline would be EXTEREMLY beneficial.

Adding to the bump here-- I'm on my first edit jumping from Premiere to Davinci and I didn't realize how irreplaceable this function is.

I did find that clicking the timecode box in the upper right or setting a key command to "Go To" timecode would apply the timecode to the compound clip or multicam clip in the separate timeline (without having to paste the timecode). This only worked however if the compound/multicam clip was already opened in a separate tab.

While this is easier than copy and pasting, it is still a few more clicks than necessary. The (any key modifier) double-click to open nested clip and maintain the relative timecode position would be huge.

Select a match frame (F) on your timeline (Multicam) clip. The Multicam shows in the source viewer. Now select Timeline > Swap Timeline and Source Viewer.

The Multicam clip opens with the playhead parked on the frame you were on in the original timeline.

I noticed that the shortcut for this (CMD + up arrow) does not work by default (seems to be a duplicate for 'Above').

Yes, it's a two step process but it works (just tested it on Resolve Studio 18.1.1).

Same sort of thing can be done with compound clips it seems.

This feature to open multicam clip at current position of playhead will be great. Please, Blackmagic give us this feature! Thanks in advance!

+1 One of the examples that Resolve yet to have matured to a proper NLE.
This is an essential feature for any pro editor both when working on Multicam and on nested (compound) clips.
this is very much needed.
currently, there is a workaround you can press F to match frame and then cmd(ctrl)+pageup.
but seriously BM you should really attend to this fundamental feature

+1 Strong. This should be a quick win for BMD. All the data is there in the parent timeline.

Would be nice to have a setting to keep same cursor position between timelines too. I may do multicam different to some as I start with clips synced on timeline, copy and then make a multicam timeline so can always switch back to source. Then go to flattened. Would be nice to just switch between timelines with cursor in the same place.

I agree should not be difficult as it works between pages.

Any nested compound clips or timelines should be able to sync timeline timecode, there is so much potential with the nested timelines idea, it just needs to be fully developed.
