Audio Device doesn't show up as Input

PostFri Jun 22, 2018 3:28 pm

When trying to patch an audio input to a channel for voiceover-recording in the firelight tab, the audio inputs from our firewire audio device don't show up in the patch Input/output page, just the Built-In Line Ins. The device works fine in other applications such as fcpx.
We would really like to use Resolve as a A-Z solution for a time critical documentary we are producing in 2019. Hope it's gonna be ready by then :)

The audio device input sample rate needs to be 48kHz.

Go into Mac Utilities - Audio MIDI Setup, and select your Firewire audio device, and see if you can set the sample rate to 48kHz.

If you can't select a 48KHz sample rate, it's not going to work in Resolve currently.

UPDATE: I just re-read your SIG that the device is 48kHz. So it should show up.

But I'd still be interested to verify in the Mac Audio MIDI Setup app that your device shows up there, and that it shows 48kHz there.

It seems problems with some external FireWire sound cards are not fully fixed yet. Lot of different bug reports started from Resolve 14, and it is still problem in 15b5. Only one audio channel is visible in audio settings, only one channel in Edit and Color page, but in Fairlight page i hear and monitor STEREO. I use ECHO AudioFire 4 on Mac.
in Resolve 15b5 i see new option for Speaker Configuration - Use System Setting, but it don't fix the problem.
All worked well in Resolve 12 and earlier, but then something was changed and broken.

Seems we are in the same boat. I have an Echo Audiofire 12, and on macOS you only see one channel as input. On Windows, you see none. My workstation is windows based, so the audio interface is useless for recording in Resolve. I really hope this gets fixed, buying a new audio interface that has as many inputs and the quality of the DACs cost at least 1000 euros.

Hi Dwayne

Here's the Audio-Setup. The Intensity Pro shows up in the Resolve Patch Window, but actually all the Channels are greyed out, even the Built-in Lines. Is that how it's supposed to be? I'll post a picture of that, too

Can confirm this with an Apogee Rosetta 200 connected via it's (Rev E) X-Firewire card to the Mac Pro's Firewire800 port, where only Input 1 is registered within Resolve, along with Output 1.

Input 2 and Output 2 are not available within the Patch I/O window,
nor in Preferences > System > Video and Audio I/O > Speaker Setup

Resolve accesses all inputs and outputs exposed by the Merging Ravenna driver (Ethernet), and the Intensity Pro 4K (PCI-E) in both the Patch I/O window as well as in Preference's Speaker Setup.

Issue appears to be isolated to Firewire devices.
Unfortunately, the Rosetta 200 is the only Firewire device available to test with.

Hi,

I do not know about MAC but about windows:
1-make sure that the default recorder is the microphone's input microphone device
2-parameterize the microphone input in 48000 Hz

turn on the microphone
3- In Davinci Resolve, Audio Input Patch in the Destination Track

4-Press Record at the track
5-Press 'Master' Record and talk!
6-press 'Stop' to stop recording :)

Thanks for the answers everyone. It seems clear that Resolve has an issue with Firewire Sound devices und that this needs to be fixed. It's amazing how one little bug can bring a product from "this solves all my problems" to "great in theory but not very useful for my purposes."

It seems Firewire Sound problem is fixed now in 15b6 !

1. install Resolve 15b6
2. Set up program settings to "Use System Setting"
3. Reboot OS.

Try to switch audio to "Manual"and then switch back to "Use System Setting". Do it without program reboot.
Or maybe reset program settings in some other way...

Indeed, the problem persists. I have even bought another audio interface, and that one has different problems, and it seems to me that this is the way sound is implemented in Resolve. I think they still need to do some tinkering. I also sent a mail to support in case the BMD team missed this or my previous post.

I just checked again. In my situation stereo audio output works when i playback video on timeline. But no any input audio channels in Fairlight. Also crazy amount of Output channels. I use Echo Audiofire4 sound card.
So the problem is not fixed.

Re: Audio Device doesn't show up as Input

Hello,

similar issue ...
is it possible to make my Decklink Studio 4K Audio Input available in Windows 10?
I see the Output. "Bereit" means available and working.
I see the Input. But "Nicht verfügbar" means not available.

I get sound (and video) from HDMI Embedded (sound of an old DV VideoCam).
But even if I change to XLR or AES/EBU in the Blackmagic Desktop Video Setup Tool and restart windows, this input is not available, even though it appears as input in OBS or other Software.

Thank you in advance

Hey! Seems they finally fix it in Resolve 16.1. At least all channels of my old FireWire sound card now visible in manual mode. In earlier versions it worked only as stereo in "use system settings" mode

Same problem here with Allen&Health Qu-16 audio mixer as audio input device (24 audio input channels).

It doesn't work with latest driver on Windows 10: no audio inputs in Resolve.

It WORKS with the old driver version 2.20.

I've done some tests together with Allen&Health support and we discovered that it works for max 8 channels only.
With driver version 2.20 you can select how many audio channels are available for applications.
Selecting 1 to 8 channels it works. If you select more than 8 channels it disappear from Resolve.

Unfortunally Allen&Healt removed the ability to select max input channels in newer driver versions, so now I'm using v2.20. I hope it will continue to work with future Windows versions.

By the way it seems that Resolve doesn't support audio devices with more than 8 input channels (on Windows).

Maybe this information can be useful for someone else.

Decklink does not appear as audio input device also (maybe because it has 16 input channels?).

I've tested it on 3 Windows 10 (1903) computers, Decklink Studio 4K, Decklink Extreme 4K, Avid Artist DNxIQ, Desktop Video 11.4.1.

Sorry, I forgot to specify that driver v2.20 works input only.

I use driver 2.20 to be able to record audio in DaVinci but I use Artist DNxIQ/Decklink as output device.
