"The specified account already exists" when I try to install

PostSun Aug 04, 2019 5:25 pm

I am getting the error message "The specified account already exists" when I try to install.

I did previously try unsuccessfully to install Resolve.

I uninstalled and then used 10bit Uninstaller 8.6

Never seen that one. Don't recall Resolve ever asking to input 'account' information.

What options do you have selected in the installer window?

I eventually tried uninstalling, then renaming to program directory, but I still got this.

The attached graphic is in case I have some incompatible hardware

I don't know that it would matter for this type of issue, but you appear to be installing Resolve 16 beta 3.

Try the current 16b7 release and see if it behaves the same.

Also, if you have the PostgreSQL checkbox checked (can't tell from your screen shot) uncheck that.

I uninstalled everything, including with "add/remove" for PostgresSQL and Fairlight Audio Accelerator Utility

Deleted the install folder

I then tried again with "DaVinci_Resolve_16.0b7_Windows.exe"

Exactly the same fault.

I have tried running as administrator as well as "open"

I wondered if somehow I had an early failure with installation and part of the registry work got done?

I'm not inclined to uninstall the other 3 components, all part of Visual C++

Exactly the same error message every time.

Any ideas at all?

When you use the uninstaller, that doesn't delete user specific information, such as project data config information.

So run the uninstaller again for Resolve, and PostgreSQL if you've reinstalled that.

After the uninstall, verify that the C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve folder has been removed. If it's still there, delete it.

Also verify that the C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL is gone. If there was any data previously in it, it would still be there, so delete this folder as well, if it exists.

Then, delete this folder: C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

Where <your user name> is your Windows login name.

Now install 16b7 again, and see what happens.

That's common for many programs. The native Windows Uninstaller doesn't do a complete job. That's why I recommend the following, which offers the option to Automatically remove residual files.
