Don't reload timeline thumbnails / cached thumbnails

PostSat Jan 25, 2020 2:10 pm

The thumbnails in the timeline are reloading every time I swap timelines.
This slows down the whole process a lot.
It also takes a couple of seconds before my 2 hour (imported) timeline shows up...

Is this normal behavior? If so, cached thumbnails would be rather useful..

+1. They would indeed be useful. Some programs (e.g. Bridge) use cached thumbnails that appear virtually instantaneously once they have been cached. A lot of other programs seem to generate these on the fly - not sure why; maybe a deeper technical reason.

I'm bumping this one up as it's still rather annoying.

It would really be helpful if there was a cache for the first & last video frame, or some other improvement that prevents thumbnails from reloading after a timeline switch.*

*Especially for very long timelines that need to be separated in parts to prevent lag in editing.

Does anybody know of a way to stop the thumbnails from reloading all the time in thumbnail view?

It even happens wen only zooming out and in and it's extremely time consuming to wait again and again for the thumbnails to refresh for no reason.

If at least the thumbnail at the first frame could just stay put that would be so helpful.

in the edit page? I use the option where only the first and last thumbnail is generated, much faster...

Yes that's what I use also, but it keeps reloading them on large timelines (15+ minutes) with lots of cuts, sometimes even when not swapping timelines.
