-1, these things can be used for propaganda and misinformation, let's not have this made easy for people with bad intentions. Just do your job in production.

Stalin removed people from photographs decades ago. No computers needed.

People with bad intentions already do that for a long time, without any AI.
The techniques and tools used in movies, personal projects, and other less-good things are all the same.

The propaganda works pretty well already without any CGI, VFX, or AI.
Control the supply chain of the news and omit important facts (Don't forget to censor or criminalize independent media). The bad actors are already in place, in plain sight.

Many programs already do this kind of thing. Paid or free open-source ones.

I personally prefer to see these types of tools available to everyone instead of just those with power and money. Teach/encourage people to make cool and positive content with it.

For me, it's everyone or nobody. And since it's impossible to block big corporations, governments, or really bad actors from having access to these tools, it's better to have it free for all.

The vast majority of people don't use these tools to hurt others too, don't forget this important fact.

And finally, having Davinci Resolve be the last editing software without something like this won't change a thing honestly.

I'll put a -1 on the invention of Internet, and the globalisation.

I'm not +1 this FR either, because I know that there will be something like this added to Davinci Resolve at some point anyway. Whether I like it or not.

AI makes things a lot easier for a lot more people to do this, the fact that manipulation has existed for decades isn't relevant here as it was in the hands of much fewer people, it was more difficult to do, and you could do a lot less with it.

This is actually a huge move from Adobe, generative AI tools are the only reason I was unable to move away from Photoshop since they save tons of time.

If now we get similar tools in Premiere... maybe that would be a reason to move back - hope Blackmagic is paying attention.

That is true, I totally understand your point of view.
But I think it's pretty much a lost battle in the context of video editing softwares.

The tools are out there for the mass since Stable Diffusion exist. And all the online service that existed before Adobe even introduced generative AI in Photoshop.

The floodgate was opened a while back. Not having that in Premiere or Resolve is like standing in a river, yes, you technically are slowing down parts of the stream, but it has zero impact on the bad actors.

There are many online tool where you just have to pay 5-10 bucks, draw a mask in a browser, to remove or add things in a image/video. Just to summarize the situation.

Everybody losing their wigs over AI and it's 2024 and we still can't customize the UI on the editing panel ...
