lower thirds

Is there an easy way to make lower thirds? I don't own Photo Shop. If I needed Photo Shop what version would you recommend? Cheapest????

I would actually ask what editing software you are using? Because you could quite easily create better looking and have more control over lower thirds in say Premier Pro over Photoshop.

Look for pre-made templates. Videohive.net has some pretty good ones available for a few bucks.

We use pixelmator to make basic lower thirds, exported as a 1920x1080 TIFF with transparency.

I use photoshop, because I have it, I know it, it works well, and it is easy. But there are plenty of other tools out there to do it. The main thing is that you want something (like photoshop) that can create your images with an alpha channel. Gimp is free, and can do alpha channels, so if you are looking for cheapest, free is as cheap as it gets.
