ATEM Mini availability

At the time of ATEM Mini launch, the availability was mentioned as Nov 2019. It has been in pre-order status on most online and retail places. Do we know the exact date when ATEM Mini will start shipping?

It is already shipping, Multiple people already received it. But there will be a lot of pre-orders. so can take up to a month or even more to get all pre-orders out the door. ;)

Thank you. If it is already shipping, should not all websites and retailers indicate that it is already shipping, meaning it should not be on Pre-Order? If BMD does not have enough stock to cover the Pre-Orders I believe then the sites should reflect as item being on "On Back Order".

That is good to know. I hope the communication and status from BMD and Retailers was a little more clear.

I banked on having it to upload a live broadcast for a tv network
It doesn’t look good when you say you will have a piece of equipment and not be able to deliver
It should be ready to work when said

We were all told mid November not January

I can understand your frustration. When a company says they will starts shipping in November, I would read it as ready to order Online (or Retail) and start shipping in November. Here it looks like they are getting around to selectively shipping just the Pre-orders at this stage. And if that is the case, it is disappointing based on what they said at the time of the product launch.

When a company says "Shipping in November" that means they expect to ship it to retailers in November. My understanding is that BMD did that. It takes a while to ship (literally on a ship) from Australia to North America. Then your retailer has to ship it to you.

I'm waiting on my pre-order as well (USA), but you can't blame BMD, they did what they said they would do.

This.

BMD said they'd start shipping in November. They did - they have their main resellers and importers first, from there to the main retailers and later smaller retailers, from there to customers. It's a long process. That some people already have them is impressive. There is also a pecking order in terms of regions - some countries will receive bigger batches than others which could affect delivery depending on when and with whom the pre-order was placed.

Booking a job on the basis of kit that hasn't even been released yet is new to me.

Also if Sony brings out the FX9 shipping. It will take 2 months at least before you can order one normally online..

Don't forget how much units need to be build before you can supply the demand. And with the Atem mini it could be that there are already 500.000 produced, or maybe even 1 Million.. BMD has to buy all the parts, put a lot of money in the production.. And you are complaining about the fact that you dont have one in your hands yet...

It is hard to predict which product will be the hot selling product and how much you need of those..
See the BMPCC4k. Now after 6 months or so they finally can be delivered from stock.

I wonder how many units were produced and how many have been shipped? Fascinated by supply chain stuff like this in technology - particularly for a 'smaller' company like BMD.

That is so funny !! Retailers do not use BMD products. Take for example when Apple says, they will start shipping iPhones, do they mean, they will start shipping from China? And that each customer has to figure out the maritime shipping routes for their country and when it may possibly be available for them to purchase..

BMD Press Release in September was very categorical. "ATEM Mini will be available in November 2019 for US$295, excluding duties, from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide.

The resellers worldwide should have ATEM Mini in stock and ready to ship locally now that it is Nov 30.

You not been around when the first Blackmagic camera was released a few years back. It took a year between reveal and start shipping. A few deadlines were far overdue there.. So 1 month delay is VERY acceptable. :D

That is nice to know. :) I know BMD is Australian based and has so far catered only to niche customers in Broadcast and Film industry so I can only imagine their struggle to scale distribution for mass-consumption products (like Pocket Camera, ATEM Mini etc.) that they are venturing into. But if they can be so smart and cutting edge with their product design and delivery (both h/w and software I must say), there is no reason why they cannot figure out something as operational as product distribution and supply chain..

Who told you November? If your quoting the website video they say
SHOULD be available in November.
If you have planned for an event for gear you don't already own, Be unhappy with yourself. To do so is foolish. Especially working with the term SHOULD BE, and this being a new product launch.

We pre-ordered two. My supplier has stock but informs me, not enough to fulfilled my order. Other backorders stand in front of mine. We ordered the day after the video posted. I'm now looking Late DEC, early Jan. The uptake on the mini is most probably into the tens of thousands, given its price. You just gotta wait your turn.

Adorama is saying, “expected to arrive Dec 5th”.

Once again, the definition of “arrive” seems to be a grey area. I understand frustrations of many of you and I do wish that a clearer expectation was given on both the retailer and BMD side of things. Technically however, it’s still November! :)

The ATEM Mini *is* available now (30 November 2019).

My supplier in the UK has already shipped to [some] customers. The problem is they have a LONG pre-ordr list. It seems the ATEM Mini is very popular and has a lot of Pre-orders.

I should get mine in the next delivery from the Main UK importer to my supplier. The Main UK importer is sharing out the delivery to the various UK distributors on some sort of pro rata scheme so every distributor gets some but none can supply their whole pre-order list.

I assume that BMD is supplying the importer for each country in the same way.

The alternative is to wait until they have produced enough units to supply ALL the per-orders before shipping... Then everyone gets them at the same time in 3 months time....

My supplier did comment that some end userspre-order from multiple suppliers. In the first batch they delivered at least one customer on list for those units said "cancel the order we already got one." Ie from another supplier that shipped yesterday. So the preorder lists might not be quite as long as they appear.

So everyone can quite their bitching and complaining as the unit is a bargain at the price and you are lucky to have it at all.

No need to be so snarky!

Not sure what you are saying. "It *is* available now, but you cannot get it for 3 months".. Is that the jist of what you are trying to say? Not very helpful.

BMD Sep 13th press release --> https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/media/ ... 0190913-01 specifically said that it will be available with BMD resellers worldwide by Nov end. I have checked the local re-sellers and the US online retailers listed on BMD sites. None of these have it available to order and all are showing the status as 'Preorder'.

The UK reseller ProAV has had a batch in and shipped them to customers last week. They are awaiting their next batch this week so orders ARE being filled and people do have them or will be getting them inthe next few days though not everyone. That is how distribution works.

I can't see what everyone is complaining about.

I received a response from BMD Customer Service,

"The ATEM Mini is shipping to our distributors but back orders are being filled first. Please accept our apologies for this delay. Unfortunately we have no visibility into the supply chain so it's not possible for us to provide an exact date when the ATEM will be available for purchase."

The product went from Pre-Order to Back-Order and looks like there is no visibility even at BMD about when it will become available to purchase.

It is disappointing, to say the least.

I ordered on Thanksgiving day from VideoToybox.com. Due to arrive Tuesday or Wednesday this week, according to the tracking they provided.

Looking at their site, it appears that they have additional units in stock right now. Maybe call and ask before ordering, to be sure?

In my experience, they always have units before they are available at B&H or Adorama. Got my Pocket cameras very early in the process. Received my battery grip early last week.

I ordered from DVE Store last night and it shipped this morning. I cancelled my B&H and Adorama preorders that I made right after the announcement. It seems to me if you want an ATEM Mini you're much better off finding the smaller retailers than waiting for the big two.

I was able to order at VideoToybox.com and they have shipped it the same day. They are a small player compared to B&H etc.. but they seem to have smartly stocked more foreseeing the demand in the market.

They can't have "smartly stocked more foreseeing the demand in the market" as almost every importer and distributor have a large number of pre-orders from when it was announced. The supplier I use has had two deliveries so far and is supplying the pre-orders in turn. (they are halfway down their list) I expect B&H's list is a LOT longer than most.

I understand that some people order from multiple places and cancel the other orders when they get one. So if several people who ordered from Video Toy box had already got their ATMEmini from somewhere else they they could have one spare in stock. You might just have been lucky with your order

This is just conjecture!

If you read the original note from Tim Aspeny, this vendor had it available as planned and still has it available. Also, I do not believe people cancelled their Pre-orders with Video Toy box. It is actually the other way around, if you read this thread carefully. People are cancelling their pre-orders with B&H etc.. since VideoToolBox, DVE etc.. have stocks and are able to ship right away.

Well i think B&H being one of the biggest out there.. Also has a Pre-order list 5 times as long.

You have to wait more before you get it. And i guess B&H is also shipping out pre-orders but you don't hear about it. And they keep the status up the website as is till they can guaranty stock. ;)

I agree. "everyone" has a huge pre order list and BMD is shipping out to the importers and distributors globally pro-rata.

It also appears that many people are on more than one back order list. So when the get a unit they cancel the other back orders. Therefore these pre-order lists are not going down in a linear from. It is going to take a while for everyone to clear their pre-order list.

Some distributors will fill their list before others. So it is a lottery as the moment until there are no pre-orders to fill.

UPDATE: VideoToyBox still has them listed as available, so I purchased one. I called to follow up on shipping, and learned that they are out of them as well. They hope to get some new ones in "soon" since they received shipping notices from BlackMagic, but they aren't sure if that's arriving today, next week, etc...

Just an FYI. B&H still has no idea when they will receive them either.

Maybe try DVEstore then if you're in the US. Their website is still showing available. Mine just arrived today. Ordered on the 3rd delivered on the 5th. Who knows how long it would have been if I waited for B&H or Adorama.

My B&H order now says, "In stock, order sent to warehouse". Nothing will actually ship on Sunday. I will probably have it in hand Wednesday or Thursday.

I ordered 1 unit the morning of September 19th. If that helps anyone based on their position in line.
