New Studio with SMPTE Fiber Questions

PostTue Dec 31, 2019 7:50 am

Hi -

We're in the process of purchasing and installing a BM system into a new studio.

We will have 3 each of:
BM Studio Camera with Camera Fiber Converters
Studio Fiber Converters

We have 3 studios we want to be able to shoot in with everything terminating into the control room since thats where the Studio Converters will be.

We've specked out the main SMPTE Fiber Cables (LEMO 311M/304M) for the basic runs from the cameras to the patch panels and from the control room patch panel to the Studio Fiber Converters.

My question is, what connectors do we need to install in the patch panels? and what type cable do we need to run to the control room from the 3 studios?

And in theory, can you run patches like this and everything work properly?

I spoke with BM tech support and he said they dont test congifs like this and I should take it to the forums.

I will try to attach a very rough drawing of what I'm trying to accomplish.

any thoughts would be appreciated.

thanks!

Wait ! BM Studio Cameras, With Camera Fiber Converters? The Camera Fiber Converters are for the Ursa Cameras. While they could work as a SDI in SDI out device you are overbuilding this system and spend a lot of money while the BM Studio Camera's have a Fiber port on it's own!! ;)

I guess you want to take SMPTE 311 because it's a broadcast standard and you want to run power trough the Fiber. But the Studio Camera converter is not really build for the Studio cameras. ;)

We have a SMPTE version of this add-on. That will power the Camera and And connect 2 fiber straight into the Studio Camera.

To answer your question your wall patch panel should look like this:

Because the output connector on CCU, A wall plate always should look like this SMPTE311 Lemo 3K.93C FXW:

I misspoke. We’re putting in 3 it’s broadcast cams. Not the older studio cams. We found pre-made SMPTE LEMO cables that will work. Thanks for the replies.
