ATEM Mini Software - Live Graphics

PostThu Jan 09, 2020 10:08 am

Hey all,

Just got the ATEM Mini and was having a bit of trouble with the software.

The website says you can play GIF's in the media player but when I load them in they don't play. Am I doing something wrong?

I've tried exporting as gif, gif sequence, TGA sequence, exporting from AE and PS but with no result.

Also, the chroma key preview doesn't work. Have worked in live TV before but this is new to me

Note that the ATEM Mini does not support animation sequences, only still images. Some of the more expensive ATEM models do support loading image sequences into their media pools for use as transitions and such. But unfortunately you can only load individual still images into the ATEM Mini.

I think it should be possible to load individual GIF files (not animated GIFs) into the ATEM, but since GIFs do not include transparency support, PNG or TGA files are generally better options for any images that aren't going to be full screen. You can also save images from Photoshop directly into the ATEM media pool with the ATEM Photoshop plug‑in (included as part of the ATEM software).

Yes, but not partial transparency with an alpha channel. In GIF files, a pixel is either fully transparent or fully opaque.

This makes it difficult to achieve clean edges in any kind of graphic overlays (since these usually rely on anti-aliasing with partial transparency). So using an image format with a true alpha channel is probably a better option for most situations.
