H264 Pro Recorder - Semi-working

PostWed Feb 12, 2020 3:37 pm

Hi all,

H264 Pro Recorder - have been using it on an older MacBook for some time now, no problems.
The MacBook is old, so it won't run OBS which we hope to use to live broadcast our stuff onto the interweb.
Tried installing desktop video on both my own personal laptop, and my workplace's high spec laptop, and whilst both devices 'detect' the H264 recorder, no image comes up, just black screen, no sound.

I recorded a video demonstrating the problem - any ideas?

Thanks,
Tom.

If it works fine with the old laptop, why change?

I would invest in MXLight for the PC and take advantage of the native encoding of the device.

I thought MXLight might be the answer!

It works on the old mac but OBS doesn't work on the old mac.
It seems to work on the new mac, but OBS can't detect the H264 Pro recorder.

I've found a solution that works for now - I've brought my USB3.0 Intensity Shuttle, which OBS recognises and tested on YouTube live and it works.

Perhaps MXLight on the new mac or the new laptop will solve the problem with the H264 Pro recorder, and I can take my own laptop and the Shuttle and other bits home again.

The H264 recorder is pretty erratic for me a well.

It have usually worked well on my older Mac mini and MacBook Pro.
Then I upgraded to Catalina and after an update for the BM software it was OK again.

But suddenly it stopped working.
The USB system information do show the recorder as H.264 Pro Recorder version 2.0 after a reboot. Only to stop working and show Manufacturer Specific Unit version 0.01

A reboot solved it ones.

Now even Media Express misbehaved and crashes with a proud Divide by Zero... :)

Will try a complete uninstall of the Desktop Video 11.5 and then a reinstall of the the same package.

Code: Select all
Exception Type:        EXC_ARITHMETIC (SIGFPE)
Exception Codes:       EXC_I386_DIV (divide by zero)
Exception Note:        EXC_CORPSE_NOTIFY

Termination Signal:    Floating point exception: 8
Termination Reason:    Namespace SIGNAL, Code 0x8
Terminating Process:   exc handler [1362]

A complete uninstall, reboot, deletion of all prefs files from Media Express and then another reboot.
Now it is working very smooth and consistent.

The OBS will never work with H264 Pro Recorder. It is not "camera input" for the system, it is kind of special device. MXlight works great.

Thank you for your feedback.

(Sorry for slow response, my organisation went into total lockdown months ago and we're just getting back up and running this month).
