Video Assist 12g signal lag issue

PostThu Feb 13, 2020 5:05 am

Hi all,
I recently received my new 12g 7" video assist. Running out of my Lumix S1H , 1080 25p on a 8K short HDMI cable, I immediately noticed delay in signal. This is a concern as pans and focus pulls are that much harder now.
I changed out the cable for another 8K cable, and updated the firmware of the Video Assist to the most current yesterday v: 3.3.
Any advice will be MOST WELCOME.. I see too there is mention of Video Assist delays in previous posts on the older models.
I mainly need this setup to be my SDI out of the camera for LIVE HD Broadcast, but on set the delay is an issue.
Thanks guys in advance.

... this is a perfect example of what I am getting from my S1H..
This was from the FS7II, but why not use the SDI output in this case?

.. any ideas on solving this lag / delay?

Thank you Raphael.. I didn't know this as ALL the cameras I use are large sized full rig PL or B4 mount. I once used the Canon 5DmkIII, but didn't notice a delay to the CRT monitor we used.

No, your concern is accurate. The 12g video assist monitors do suffer from latency issues that other comparable monitors do not. Customers need to tell Blackmagic that it is a problem.

I have used the 7” on a Canon C100Mk2 and a Canon 6D. Both via HDMI and both show the same degree of lag. The monitor’s running FW 3.03.

What's the single most effective way to do that? I have lag issues too and need it addressed asap.

Since the Smartview 17" monitor (Also a 12G monitor) has this issue from the beginning 4 years now..

I have not really high hopes this will improve a lot.

But the best way is to contact BMD with the Webform and tell them you have a problem with it.
Although i think this is a hardware related issue and can not be solved. :geek:

Thanks ALL!
Yesterday upgraded to the newest fw 3.1.. Perhaps my imagination, or wanting it to be fixed too much.. but it did seem a 'little' better, but not enough compared to SDI no latency.

So if we use SDI to connect the video assist to an URSA camera, how much delay should we expect?
Will it be low enough for professional focus pulling?

Thanks in advance!

Is the latency still as bad as reported here?

I ponder over the VA12g for external Braw recording but this is a huge issue.
