ATEM switcher compatibility

PostWed Feb 26, 2020 10:25 pm

With the ATEM switcher, if you use a NON blackmagic broadcast camera, what features do you lose? ie tally lights might not connect ? remote adjustment of iris might not work?
(wondering about Canon XF705, and some others)

thanks

All remote control options of the camera will be lost.

Tally can be solved in other ways.

We created a hardware unit for Sony and Panasonic broadcast cameras to control the basic Camera Controls like iris, black level, master ped, gain, shutter, Whitebalance, and Tally. The box is SDI in and sends out the proper protocols to control those broadcast cameras trough the 422 Control port that is normally used with a RCP panel. ;)

so for our old Panasonic cameras, do we need a different box? or a custom config?

we would love to buy the ATEM first, and still decode how to work our separate tally system. I will get details on that, so you can answer the question more easily. actually, our tallies are independent of our cameras right now, but are controlled by the old switcher. long cable (3 pin) runs to the booth to a box connected to our old switcher. Sorry, brain blank on details. will get that info tomorrow when I am there.

thanks

the new ATEM will replace our old Panasonic AG-HMX100 Video Switcher. it connects to our old tally box with a 16 pin connector. each camera plugs in to the box with a 3 pin (DIN?) cable, run through the attic and down the walls to our floor cameras. If we get the Skaarhoj breakout board, can we then use our existing cables? (either rewire the connector, or is there a converter from 3 pin DIN to Phoenix connector?)

this is to keep us operational until we can get funds approved for new BM broadcast cameras (3). We need to keep using our Panasonic cameras until then.

I sure appreciate all the knowledge shared on this forum. I am sure learning a LOT.

Same box, Different firmware ;) What model Pana's do you have? HPX2100 /2300?

The Tally could be controlled with an interface to the Atem.
Also we carry Tally inside our box, And can be easily outputed on a minijack. Only thing you need is the Return SDI to your cameras and the box. The loop out can still be used as a Monitor PGM output. ;)

This is simpler than you're making it out to be. What you need to do is get the Atem tally box to emulate your old tally protocol, the Skarhoj box isn't necessary. Careful with the ground, on most stuff it's on pin 1, looks like the Panasonic has it on pin 9 which is un-common, ;). Wire thusly and it's off to the races.

Good Luck

Wow, Howard. that helps SO MUCH. I spent yesterday trying to find the PIN diagram. found the BM, but had no idea which pins we needed to use our old 9 PIN box. PERFECT. thanks
