ATEM capture crashes - new unit

PostFri Aug 16, 2013 8:02 pm

Every time I click capture, it crashes the application right away and creates a zero length file.
A windows error message pops up: ATEM Software Control.exe has stopped working.
Media Express fails the same way.
This is after the software reports that a 20-40 frames have been processed; but nothing is in the file.
(see attachment)

Which apps: both Software Control and Media Express

Win 7 x64 (fully updated)
HP Pavilion dm4-1000
ATEM software 4.1.1

What I've tried:
- downgraded to 3.5 (same problem)
- downgraded to 3.1 (very bad - software barely works)
- tried removed all other USB devices.
- tried using all USB port (i have 3)
- different USB cables (known to be good ones)
- I also swapped the ATEM unit at the Fremont office.

What works:
ATEM software control works fine as a switcher - fades, etc.
Media Express - works otherwise - can see video

I need this working in an event that's coming up next week.
Someone please help!

I also tried cleaning the system with ccCleaner.

EDIT: My comments below are assuming you are using an ATEM 1/ME (or 2ME). If you are using the TVS - my comments are not relevant. What version of the ATEM do you have?

What format are you set to record in? If you have left it at the default of uncompressed you will need VERY fast drives. That MAY be the issue. Have you tried changing it to Motion JPEG (this will work with just about any speed hard drive)?

The most critical aspect of all this is the compatibility of the USB3 chipset with the ATEM 1/ME. This is typically related to the USB3 chipset. So.. following the many posts here related to getting the Intensity Shuttle USB3 working with desktops/laptops is relevant too.

The good thing is that you are saying you can see the video in Media Express. That to me sounds like you have the basics working OK. It may simply be the recording format.
