UltraStudio 3D - powering

PostThu Sep 20, 2012 12:15 pm

At the product page of the ultrastudio 3d is written that "it powers from the Thunderbolt connection...".
I didn't know - sounds nice - will test it tomorrow.
BUT - there is written as well: "For more high powered work, UltraStudio 3D includes an international power supply!"
What do you mean by that? At which point I have to power it extra? Unfortunately there is no more comment anywhere to this point.

thanks in advance

"Flexible Power
UltraStudio Express is the ultimate portable solution because it powers from the Thunderbolt connection so you don't need a power supply. Simply plug in! For more high powered work, UltraStudio 3D includes an international power supply!"

Did not work with my iMac. Needs power cord.

Ok - again I did some tests now.
Does not work without additional power supply. I got a battery-powered workaround now for on-set...

I would kindly ask BMD, to correct the product text, as this information seems to be wrong. You need to power US3D ALWAYS...

Err...that's a mistake. The Ultrastudio 3D requires power. The Ultrastudio Express and both TB Intensity's do not require power. Can you link me the page so I can send it to the guys to be addressed?

Written on the Ultra Studio 3d - Page:
Flexible Power
UltraStudio Express is the ultimate portable solution because it powers from the Thunderbolt connection so you don't need a power supply. Simply plug in! For more high powered work, UltraStudio 3D includes an international power supply!

OK... , reading that more than twice, now, let me understand that one is talking about EXPRESS first and than switching to 3D. But it's on the 3D-page?!?! I suppose I am a bit too stupid for that. :(

Maybe you change this to a more clear statement.

Ha! Yeah, that's wrong. That is the only product specific Ultrastudio page and it's for the 3D.

But it looks like the text block you're mentioning was for a generic ultrastudio page and references specifically that the Ultrastudio Express is TB powered and the Ultrastudio 3D can be connected to power as the part itself supports bigger jobs.

Yeah...thats about as clear as mud. I'll forward this to our web team and see if they can make the offender a bit clearer.

Thanks guys and apologies for the confusion.

So--what is the 12v power supply's exact specifications? And where can it be purchased?
