SMPTE pinout

PostMon Jul 06, 2020 8:00 am

Hey all.
Been playing around with a Demo BMD URSA broadcast chain and have been quite impressed.

While we are looking at going for a fleet of gear including SMPTE cable we can think of a few scenarios where due to patching we only have access to LC connector fibre.

I can see there are breakout leads to convert SMPTE to LC and DC wiring. I am assuming I can power the BMD camera locally via a normal PSU. Does anyone know what the remaining copper wires are for and if there are issues with not having them present. I.e. are they just doing power and all data/comms/tally is down the fibre or will there be problems with having no copper connection?

Cheers

There was some earlier discussion about this kind of setup in this thread:
