I've been asked to spec out a 4 camera TV Studio for a new college development in Ireland and am looking for some advice. My background is with old school standard definition hard-wired CCZA cameras to CCU units in a CAR room and a remote CCU unit in the control room so I'm a bit behind with technology!

Looking at a networked studio, obviously I'd need the ATEM camera converters on the studio floor and ATEM studio in the CAR? I'm also not sure how to get power to the cameras if they were to use the fibre-based ATEM Studio and camera converters. Does everything need to run off battery or is there a more elegant solution that will allow cameras to move around on pedestals without having to worry about running out of power?

Ideally I'd like a studio fully equipped with Blackmagics products - 2 x Hyperdeck Studios for playback/recording, ATEM switcher etc. If anyone is aware of a working model of a TV Studio setup with Blackmagic gear with a sample gear list, it would be really useful. Any advice would be appreciated.

Triax systems or SMPTE Fiber cables have copper power.
You can also use Neutrik OpticalCon Duo cables with copper and fan out the fiber and power.
I would look into 48 VDC to 12 VDC power supplies to get your needed power to the camera,
convertor, and other gear. (teleprompter LCD or LED key light) That's because of the voltage drop
over long cables.

Other than that, everything else should be familiar to you.

if you can afford it, look into copperhead systems form telecast fiber. They make systems specifically built for JVC GY-HM790 cameras. I have 3 of them and they are the best option i have ever used. I also own some blackmagic camera converters with tactical fiber.

The copperheads offer everything, Camera video feed, 2 channels of camera audio, return video, return audio, teleprompter feed, tally, communications, POWER, camera control, and more. i cant remember it all. Best of all, ITS ALL 1 CABLE. I have 700 feet of SMPTE fiber per camera for sports productions, but you can go up to 1600 feet with a standard power supply on the CCU end. They are the best investment i have ever made.

PS, adding this after the fact. I am currently building a studio and will be using the same JVC/Telecast fiber copperhead systems for the studio.
