Harddrives and Hyperdecks

PostTue Oct 08, 2013 4:01 am

I have looked at the list of approved drives but I was wondering are these approved drives only for uncompressed or for any recording? I'm going to record in 1080 prores possibly HQ. Do I still have to use these drives or will others do as well?

As far as i know, these are only in the uncompressed. I have used a lot of cheaper SSD's for Pro-Res HQ and the worked flawlessly.

I've used Crucial M4's for ProRes and DNxHD no problem

Most large capacity SSD drives, 256G or larger, seem to work fine when using a compressed format
on Hyperdecks. 7200 or 10k drives not recommended for Hyperdecks.

Capturing multiple cameras using a Decklink Quad and Samsung 840, 840 EVO, and 840 PRO
we had lost frames with the 840. The EVO and PRO worked fine at 720P 59Hz. Didn't try 1080.

Thank's for the replies guys. I'll still be careful with my choice but at least I know I don't have to be that critical.
