hyperdeckstudio pro issue with timecode

I'm working with 2 hyperdeckstudio pro in PAL land. Latest firmware.
First one is set t preset time code (there is no possibility for free run it seems). Output timecode to yes.
Second one set to external time code. output timecode to no.
I use a xlr strap from first one to second one. good for balanced sound.

No timecode received by the slave. I of course tried a few things out with no joy.
I'm used to that kind of set ups with several machines, but is my first time with hyperdeck.

1/ Is there a trick ?
2/ does it work ? Has anyone successfully slaved one hyperdeck with another ?
3/ could the xlr hot and cold pin be different than normal audio ones ?

I'm having a codec issue as well.

During recording of the Hyperdeck, it does not send an TC signal out. Only when you playback.
The entire BM user group is waiting for a solution on this since the Pro was introduced.
