SSD OCZ Vertex4 (70x100x9,3) 512GB

PostFri Oct 05, 2012 1:54 pm

Hello,

I have a question for Hyperdeck shuttle. Can I use the SSD OCZ Vertex4 (70x100x9,3) 512GB.
I don't found it in FAQ.

Thank you

Most likely it will be ok. I have had success with older vertex models. Don't get the Agility though - it doesn't work well with the hyperdecks.

I've also had success with the new Samsung SSDs - they seem fine and are good value for money.

if it was easy it wouldn't be called engineering

The following 2.5” SSDs have been approved for compressed video capture:
 Crucial M4 256GB (with 009 or above firmware)
 OCZ Agility 3 240GB
 Sandisk Extreme 120GB

this is from the support page of BMD supplier

I have also used intel 240 gig and Sandisk Extreme 240 gig with no issues.

Thanks for your answer.

I have considered that will be supported the 512 GB SSD.

NO, the OCZ Vertex4 will NOT work. I tested it in-store to see if it would after having major problems with several other models of SSD's.

I have a major gripe with Blackmagic's listings of what SSD are supported and what aren't. I had nearly an entire 3-day shoot blown because of recording errors, and I followed the recommended list to the letter, yet several of those listed cause skipping on recording, including the Crucial M4 (I made sure it was firmware rev. 0009 as well!)

If you want to avoid problems, I would recommend buying from Fry's or somewhere that has a good return policy on SSD media so that you can take several models home and test them all out. I don't know why Blackmagic didn't do that, leaving the beta testing up to the consumer... grumble.

Thanks. I will buy the Samsung SSD 830 Series MZ-7PC512D.

I think it is one of the best choice at the moment.

I use an 830 256GB w/o issue. The one minor con w/ it & Hyperdeck is the 830 is only 3/4 of thickness of standard SSD/Hyperdeck pod bays so it's a loose, jiggly fit overall but the SATA/12vdc connectors are nice & snug once connection is made. Hasn't popped out on me but I most likely would have bought another standard size SSD in hindsight even though the 830's my fav SSD yet sans Hyperdeck.

Hmm... maybe I lucked out. I use Crucial M4's (512GB) and they both work flawlessly for me. I wonder what might be different.
