I want my promised 1080p60 with Intensity Shuttle TB!!!

PostSat Nov 23, 2013 11:10 pm

seriously bmd, where is it? you promised 1080p at 59.94fps and after almost two years you still haven't delivered.

at one point it was available, but not useable, because the video was only black. the intensity shuttle thunderbolt is capable of accepting 1080p60 and yet you cripple this device.

release the damn driver, so that i can finally capture video games at 1080p60.

I too just don't understand this, BM has been around a long time and is considered a top notch company with top notch hardware that deals with video professionals. The console gamers don't think this way though because of this very thing. If a professional has the hardware to support 1080P@60 why don't you just allow it? Just put a statement in that it requires fast disks and high processing or something. Even your competitors allow a 1080p@60/59 pass-through though it records at say 30fps. Come on BM your better then this! At lease allow the Thunderbolt model to select the upper 1080p frames. The TB model costs more too and for what? There is tons of bandwidth with TB, I just don't get it.

Is there a good reason why this hasn't happened yet?

Interesting. Selling a products and changing the specs afterwards is very strange. Did they change it After it shipped?

yes. like i mentioned in the first post, the option to select 1080p60 (59,94fps) was available a while ago. but it gave me only a black screen. maybe bmd took it out until they get it working and totally forgot about it.

the shuttle thunderbolt IS capable to capture at 1080p60 and that's why it pisses me off that they wont release a proper patch to enable it.

Well the fact that it only gave you a black screen would imply that it doesn't work. Just because Thunderbolt has the bandwidth doesn't mean that the other onboard chips can support it properly

Small clarification. Was it actually "promised". E.g. 1080p60 was listed as a supported format on the tech specs either on the web site - or on printed material?

What you have described so far sounds to me like it was a short term bug - where the software had the option available in the settings - but that it was eventually removed (correctly - as it didn't actually support it).

Yes it was included in the specifications. 1080p60 was also advertised as a future feature in the original announcement of the USB 3.0 Version.

I just got a Nikon D5300 and I can assure you that 1080P 60 will be demanded by the masses in the near future.

It is like black and white to color and much sharper & smoother too.

A lot of us are now looking for a device to extend recording time past the 10 minutes allowed by the FAT32 file system.

The 1080i 50.94, 1080P 29.97 and 720P 60 are no where near as good.

I am looking at the Odyssey, but if Black Magic gets their act together I will stay loyal.

I found an email from may 2012 which I' received from Callum Mclay, Technical Support Manager EMEA, in which he states that the Shuttle TB can do 1080p60...

Sometimes during development specifications have to be changed, and in order to release Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt it will ship without support for 1080p50/60 formats to begin with. The hardware is still capable of this capture format, and it is likely in the future this format will be implemented.

Almost 18 months and the feature is not enabled. So this proves I'm not making things up and secondly that BMD just doesn't give a F*** !!!

It's a little more complicated than it seems.

The fact that that format EVER showed up in the Intensity software was a mistake. It was an accident that most likely occurred because of the fact that all the Desktop video project share a common core. It was simply mistakenly not removed from the driver release.

What Callum said in his email to you is true. The hardware is capable, but not enabled (or tested at all for that matter). What we have not done is set any sort of time frame for this to be enabled. Currently there is still not a time frame for when we might add this.

I believe the over-reaching reason for this is that we want the Intensity line of devices to share the same or at least very similar capability format wise.

I know that is probably not the answer you wanted to hear. But that is where it stands.

i bought the device for that very feature. now it seams that it's a dead feature.

how about bmd gives the devs the order to work on it. many user, including myself, want it. if the hardware is capeable to handle 1080p60, then it's just laziness not to release the feature after 1 1/2 years.

if you cant deliver, how about a full refund?

or

open up a beta tester group for this feature. i rather have this feature working and use my hardware, then have to get a new device, which WILL probably happen, that supports 1080p60 - avermedia looks very promising, as they have a device that CAN do it

Unfortunately it's not quite so simple.

We understand that people want the feature. But there are many considerations when it comes to what feature for what product we work on next.

Believe me when I tell you, I understand what you are looking for. Unfortunately it does not change the matter at hand which is to say that we don't have any information on a time frame for that feature.

i highly recommend that bmd will start looking into THAT feature to be enabled, as more and more xbox one and playstation 4 user want 1080p60 capture. but if ignore it, you'll just drive current and future costumers to other companies, who don't need to think twice what gamers want to capture their game-footage. bmd has a big opening on the mac, since companies like avermedia currently don't support the mac. but that may change sooner or later.

like i said before: open up a beta testing program for this feature. this would be a win win for everyone... we get the feature and you open new spots for future costumers. unless you don't care for all the new ps4 and xbox one owners.

Hi All -

I have been fortunate to be able to use 1080p60 with my Intensity Shuttle TB for over 6 months now without issue.

I am using Desktop Video 9.7.1 on OSX 10.8.5. From what I understand, it is because I am at 9.7.1 and have not upgraded that the feature is still available.

Works with Media Express, CamTwist, and SyphonCamera (which I can then use video from the Intensity with any Syphon enabled application).

One thing that is strange, in order to use 1080p60 with CamTwist and SyphonCamera, I need to "Set default video standard as: HD 720p 60 in the Desktop Video 9.7.1 system preferences. Doesn't make any sense, but works.

I have been using this setup for over 6 months now and it has been rock solid. The only downside is that I would like to upgrade to Mavericks, but assume I cannot use 9.7.1 with Mavericks and therefore will lose the 1080p60 support.

So, I guess this would be a question for Joshua, if the BMI Shuttle TB works fine at 1080p60 today with 9.7.1, would it be possible to re-include 1080p60 support in the later versions of Desktop Video? Is it a question of regression testing or other type of testing that is delaying its support? As an outsider it is easy to say, well, it worked before so should be easy to re-enable, but I also understand there are probably many constraints we don't see here on the outside. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

As I mentioned, I am good to go with 9.7.1 on OSX 10.8.5, but would love the option to be able to upgrade to Mavericks and not lose 1080p60 support.

Look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Best Regards,
-wil

Just pulled out my TB Shuttle, updated to 10.2.1 hoping against hope that it would unlock 1080p60 as touted when I bought it.

And, of course, it didn't.

YouTube j7OHG7tHrNM -> Played in my mind. (Can't post URLs sorry, enter it manually for yourself)

And I went back to coding. More and more devices won't disengage from 1080p if they see the Shuttle, because the EDID enumerates as a 1080p device.

Any chance we could at least get a "enumerate as a 720p-only device" so that I can capture video properly on Xbox/PS4/Android devices?

People already do capture through the Shuttle form PS4/Xbox @720p What does seem to be happening though is that the PS4 is still outputting using HDCP even when it's switched off so you have to pass the signal through an HDMI splitter to remove the HDCP

PS4 does not have HDCP when you turn it off. Xbox One does when you do certain things and will never turn off unless you RESET the console by changing the consoles name or something else that would require it to do a hard reset.

This is not always true, lots of people on here have found that even when switched off the PS4 is still using HDCP and they have to send the signal through an HDMI splitter to remove it

I have yet to see this issue happen. I have seen that the console "forgets" to stay at 720p and switches to Automatic Video Display Out. This needs a splitter so you can setup. I have done several events where we streamed from a PS4 and I have yet to run into the whole HDCP issue.

I'd just give up. I've sent customer support messages over the past few years and its just the same with it being a stability issue and the development team have been noted by our requests.

I wonder what would happen if an Intensity 4K was installed into a Thunderbolt caddy then plugged into the computer.

Depends on the caddy. Other BM cards work in certain caddies so no reason why the IP4K wouldn't.

does anybody know a non-pci device that can capture 1080p60 under $500? i have both windows and mac. i don't care if its tb or usb 3.
