HDMI to SDI converter Issue

PostThu Oct 11, 2012 8:21 am

Hi,

Please we want to send out the output from a laptop quite a distance into our video hub and then to our atem television studio. Because of the distance we cannot use hdmi cable directly so we are using the hdmi - sdi converter to send to the hub. The hd-sdi signal actually shows when connected to a smartview duo monitor but doesnt show when connected to the Atem television studio hd-sdi or even the video hub. Even when i tried sending from the smartview video output while the signal is showing on the screen it still doesnt show in the hub or television studio. Please what can i do?

what is the distance i have found the same issue with the converter. once i plugged the sdi at the atem end into a sdi distribution converter it worked fine.

this was anything above 80 meters (260 feet)

Hi all,

I had a similar problem- it was the ATEM- the Mac was outputting 1080p - the ATEM will not do 1080p res only 720p ( I'm on V3.1)-
I had to use a Doremi cross converter (1080p DVi convert to 1080i BNC) to allow me to output in 1080i- worked great after that....luckily I had one because they aren't cheap!

Cheers
Dave ;)

Hi,

Trying to rack my head for a solution for you-

A video card that will do a convert....or play through something that will take 1080p but output 1080i? HD video deck of some sort?
A decklink card will take 720p and do a hardware upscale / convert to 1080i- don't know how that will help you though, as i think you said you had a laptop......
Is it a video you're playing off the laptop, or a presentation? Is it a video output or the desktop?

Cheers

Hi

Ok, so it's desktop video.......mmmm- that's what I used the Doremi for.......God, wish I could come up with a solution for you.........
Any A/V companies nearby who could hire you something like a 1080 scan converter - lots of companies have bi-directional ones for sending pics to projectors etc?? Worth a try maybe....

Cheers

you simply need to set your laptop to output 1080i

This is not that difficult to do, google might help you if you really don't know how to do it!

Here are a couple of suggestions
can you temporarily plug your laptop hdmi connection into your atem? this way you can set up your source (laptop) and destination and see if it works?

when you plug in the HDMI to the atem from the laptop, if you right click on your desktop you should see the atem show up as a BMD device. Usually you need to extend your desktop (this will allow for you to have a different resolution on your bmd device (atem) vs your desktop. A common mistake is trying to use clone or duplicate.

If you then select the output that you have going to the the ATEM select advanced, and display all resolutions available, and then select the 1080i 59.94 interlaced.

then you need to set up your powerpoint to display on the extended desktop

From main menu bar, choose Slide Show, then Set Up Show...

Under "Multiple Monitors", "Display slide show on:" choose ... well, I'm not
sure what it'll call it; the one that's NOT Primary Monitor. Mine says
"Monitor 2 Plug and Play Monitor".

Clear the check next to "Show Presenter View" (or try with it enabled .. you
may like the result; quite handy)

Click OK.

One thing to watch out for ... if you start this presentation on another system
that doesn't have two monitors, you may see an icon in the task bar but nothing
else. That'd be PPT playing the show on the external monitor that isn't there.
Change it back to Primary Monitor if that comes up.

This should work

unveilgroup/Jason: just a friendly FYI as you may be unaware that pasting multiple identical posts in varying categories is friendly-fire SPAM: it gives staff senseless overhead work in the form of locking down the dupe content posts SEs ultimately remove from their indexes w/ a frown/potential minor penalty & could negatively impact SE rankings/traffic/income if long-term or massive spike/surge.

Slicing & dicing replies into most active or orig thread is no fun. If the post w/ a solution gets tossed/lost forever, there goes your desired quick fix & ya never saw it due to your actions. If they're rendered irrelevant due to time, then notify authors who donated time from their day to help you, why their time spent to that end was wasted because the most active thread rendered an identical solution 5 replies & 18 hours before you read the OPs plea for help. & it can snowball into even more moderating just from shotgunning one query in all directions in hope of a quicker solution. One clear, concise question including all data needed to form an opinion or three posted in the only proper place wins out over shotgun SPAM every time based upon my 2 decades as an Admin--honest. :)
