1080p on the ATEM product line

PostMon Oct 15, 2012 2:48 am

I wonder if we could convince BMD to add 1080p support for the ATEM line, it certainly seems to be the way cameras are going even BMD's own offering.

Just had a client request this for an IMAG show.

This would be great from a latency point of view for IMAG.

I guess the big question is if the hardware is capable as 1080p is shifting double the data of 1080i.

The client is always right, but especially for IMAG, would be hard to tell increase in quality in an 1080p vs. 720p upscaled.

BMD is great at cost-effective solutions, but 3G across the entire switcher - I dunno. True, there's 2x data per stream to process, I'm thinking it would create more heat in a unit that already operates pretty warm.

The issue is in some cases, 720p native support is going away on a lot of devices , and so there is a requirement to reduce the amount of audio/video delay to a minimum even with genlock, 1080p is going to probably be the way forward in the future. Plus BMD's camera in only 1080P
