Macbook Retina Display HDMI plug to ATEM 1 M/E

PostFri Oct 19, 2012 12:59 am

Hi,
I try to plug my Macbook Pro retina display into my ATEM 1 M/E with the HDMI output. It doesn't work at all... What can I do to connect a Mac onto ATEM? Am I force to use another converter to have a graphic presentation (like Keynote or Powerpoint) ? Sorry for my english! Thanks for your help!

The ATEM only supports the following resolutions. You must set your computer to one of these resolutions or it will not work.

1920x1080 59.94hz interlaced (60hz currently does not work due to a known bug)
1920x1080 50hz interlaced
1280x720 59.94hz progresssive (not 60hz see above)
1280x720 50hz progressive

Thank you for your answer.
I think that I can't change the resolution when I use the HDMI connector...

I´m sorry to tell you, can´t use any mac HDMI output port, because uses a anti piracy protocol called HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection), I don´t know why they put that, to protect what, the desktop screen?, your powerpoint presentations? who knows....
Then use a Windows PC or convert from VGA to HDMI to use it on your ATEM.

You can use your Mac HDMI output only for TV´s or proyectors, again, sorry.

Sorry for my english too.

Apologies to Telesistemas if this might offend you, but I believe that you might have gotten your facts wrong. In this post viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1830#p10301, I've explained that the HDMI outputs from Macbook Pro Retina do work.

To answer jacqueslevesque, I'm afraid due to an oversight by BMD, there's a bug in which 5994 couldn't be output by computers. So, if you really require a computer display, you might wanna try converting the signal to a Component and input through the ATEM 1's component input. The UltraStudio Mini Monitor is not currently available at the present moment.

I use the DVI extender with great success on my macbook pro to convert to HDSDI, anyone tried the Retina version with it?

I'm not able to tell you if that will work as the UltraStudio Mini Monitor is not released at the moment and we don't have a working unit to test it out. However, it might work seeing that it outputs through HDMI/SDI via Thunderbolt. We will update accordingly once we have tested and verified workability with the Macs. Meanwhile, I seek your understanding and patience as we try to resolve the 60hz issue.

When using 10.8 and the retina macbook pro it is advisable to use some kind of monitor control extension to allow full control of the output. Apple have kind of crippled their pro machines with 10.8 and the retina. You no longer get to choose exactly the resolution you want. Try switchresX, or an equivalent. It is one of the first things I put on any new retina to make it useable for output.
