Two things:
The focus demand sends relative positional data, not absolute; which actually makes it infuriating that it has hard stops. If you wind it towards one end while unplugged, then plug it in, it will not match the lens to that position. You have to manually run the wheel to each end to get the lens in-step with the control.
Secondly, without using parfocal lenses (e.g. not real TV lenses or something like Canon CN-E at minimum), it wouldn't be repeatable anyway. Minute changes to zoom drastically changes the focus.
I made a remote focus controller for the original micro studio camera about eight years ago that had presets you could save and recall, but quickly found that the tiniest bump of the zoom made the presets redundant.
