I sure would love to see Blackmagic Design offer a replay system. There are very few systems on the market that are priced in a similar range as the BMD products are. I feel like it would be a natural fit for BMD to come out with a reasonably priced replay system for the following reasons:
1. They already have experience with shuttle style devices (most replay systems have shuttles incorporated)
2. They have so many pieces of gear in the live production space already covered from (cameras, converters, switchers, signal conversion, recording decks, monitors)
3. They have recording technology already in place, although they would have to adapt the ability to record and playback at the same time.
4. Because they would be my hero if they did this (but in all reality, I think there is a market for it)
Currently the Roland P-20HD is the only sub $2000 replay system that I know about (there is also the the JLCooper device...but it's a controller not an all in one solution). Of course there are software systems like Vmix that offer replay but when you add the capture card(s) and computer into the equation it is above that $2000 mark.
I actually don't even need replay....what I actually need is the ability to access a recording while it's recording and be able to fast forward, pause, rewind as needed. I likely will purchase the Roland because it can do that....but man would I love to see BMD give Roland a run for their money in this sector of the market.
Thoughts?
