Using a Videohub with CCU joysticks Youtube vid

PostTue Oct 23, 2012 11:43 am

After my recent design of a palm sized Videohub router controller, I was asked to design a CCU joystick control monitor switcher for a friend who has a portable OB unit using a Videohub.

It is designed to be controlled by up to 16 Joysticks (or buttons) and is fully configurable using a Mac or PC via USB.

This unit acts as a 'Videohub client' connected to the standard 'server' computer via a normal network.

Here is another of my award winning demo for you to see.... (just joking about the award...)

Feel free to comment or make suggestions.

It looks very good what you made!!!
But I have still 2 questions:

* In the YouTube video there is a delay between pressing
the button and the change from input.
Do you have a video with your print "live" in production?
And what is the response time there?

* And would it be possible to lose the mac/pc in between? (in version 2)
[BMD Universal Videohub] --- Ethernet ---> [Arduino] --- I/O ---> [Joysticks]

Thanks for the video!
Very interesting!

I found there is about a 1 frame delay from button press to actual switch (the video is going via a quad split with an extra frame delay). The 1 frame switch delay is because of the data transmission from the micro-controller to the server and down the USB and processing of the Videohub itself. And then take into account the xpoint waiting for the next vertical interval.
But this delay has never been a problem when in the field as it is the same for any Videohub 'client' controller. In my software the moment the switch is detected it sends the data.

I do not have a 'BMD Universal Videohub' but if it uses the ethernet in a similar way it can control it directly.
Currently my 'version 2' of the software uses an Arduino Mega microcontroller and has xpoint tally outputs that display on monitors, panels and relays.

Thanks for the extra information...

And we also don't have a "BMD Universal Videohub".
So I can't experiment or give extra information...
But we need a bigger matrix and one of our highest
requirements is the Joystick Override Function.

So keep us posted about your developments!
Meanwhile we also look into other options...
