teranex latency?

PostFri Nov 02, 2012 1:25 am

I'm thinking about a teranex 2D for audio sync and maybe deinterlacing. So does anyone out there know how much latency can I expect if I take in 1080i@59.95fps and embed the audio with genlock assistance and output at 1080p@59.95fps?

I haven't tried what your suggesting, but I can say that with standards conversion, there's a noticeable delay of maybe 1/2 to 1 second. Though, just embedding audio shouldn't have that issue.
Windows 11 Pro, AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, 32GB RAM, NVidia RTX 2070 8GB.

That seems too much to me, I don't expect that.
I don't have the BMD Teranex (yet), but an AJA FS1 can embed and convert with much less delay than that.
I have been using that to embed audio at the same time as standards conversion and didn't notice so much delay, so I would expect the same from the Teranex.
Also if this would be the case, it would make the unit just unusable in many live scenario's.

The fundamental difference is that the Teranex is a memory based video processor. That memory allows it to the the really funky stuff that sets it apart like denoising and motion adaptive format and timebase conversion. It happens to be possible to embed/disembed audio with a Teranex, but that's not what it was made for if the first place. The delay it incudes is fundamental to its core features.

The FS1 is at the other end of the spectrum.

Ok, but when used for simple tasks it would still delay that much? Good to know before buying.
