Intensity Extreme and SD

PostThu Nov 15, 2012 2:50 am

Hello,
We run a weekly news program at our school and found the intensity extreme as a good alternative to the DV-RCA converter we've been using for our live broadcasts. An issue we had with the previous one (a Sony converter) was that HD footage in Final Cut Pro 7 would not play out to composite video (Standard Definition). We use HD cameras but the school's system is still all SD so we need to downconvert, however this takes a lot of time and requires us to re-render the entire sequence in another size.

Is the Intensity Extreme capable of downconverting this HD footage (ProRes 422) into a format viewable by the switcher we use (Panasonic AG-MX70) or is this too much data to be handled live? If this doesn't work are there any alternatives to the Intensity Extreme or how we're going about doing this?

In general, our problem is that we need to play various news packages and commercials directly from the timeline during the show, but these videos are in HD and our switcher does not recognize any HD formats.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi,

You can turn on the software downconvert option in the Blackmagic System Preferences and the HD timeline from Final Cut Pro 7 will be down converted in realtime to SD.

Please note that 1080i59.94 down converts to NTSC while 1080i50 down converts to PAL.

Does this apply to 720p as well? It seems that I can only get it to play out with some messing around with the settings - it always takes a while to find the combination of sequence settings and output format to get the switcher to get the correct signal.

You will need to provide a lot more detail for anyone to help. OS, Resolve, CUDA, NVIDIA driver versions. Hardware config and file format will help too. Did this issue just start? What's different to before?

Another potential problem is heavy 3D games. Running Screenflow or another capture app at the same time takes up some significant CPU/GPU resources, and the game can start to run at a lower frame rate than you want..
