Issues with luma key

PostThu Oct 23, 2014 10:39 pm

I can't seem to get a proper key with the graphics below. I've tried adjusting the clip and gain and nothing works. It's always semi transparent and my image darkened. Any suggestions? This is for a show tomorrow.

Make your key source the same as the fill source

I think I tried that, but I'll give it a go again. Should I be using a DSK instead of a USK?

So I think I figured it out. I tried a DSK instead and it seems to be much cleaner. No transparency. Edges are a little jaggy but I can deal with that. Only problem now is there is a black stroke/outline on the text in the center where it lists the rider and horse name, and that black outline is completely gone and I can see through it. I don't really think there's any easy way to get that back without bringing the black in the upper 3rd back. I'm going to see if the person providing the graphics can just take that outline on the text out and I should be good.

The way a luma key works is it looks at the graphic and takes anything that's black and makes it transparent instead. That means you can't have anything in the picture be black that you don't want transparent. The trick is to make those parts (in your case the outline) not black, but "almost black" or very very dark gray.

If the graphic is static then you can make a greyscale matte to define the alpha, load it into the atem still store and select it as the cut source for a linear key.

if it was easy it wouldn't be called engineering
