Analog to SDI Converter

PostSat Nov 24, 2012 11:01 pm

I have a Blackmagic Analog to SDI mini converter that I am trying to convert Analog to SDI/HD for an input to the ATEM 1/ME switcher. I am trying to feed it into the switcher as 1080i. Will this converter do it? I can see the output if I change the switcher to another input setting as SD, but not HD All my cameras are running 1080i. Perhaps this has already been answered, but I haven't been able to find it.

Bottom line...will the converter produce an HD signal?

Yes, that converter will produce HD signal IF you feed analog HD to it!

But your question apprently is: "does this product upconvert SD to HD"?
- No, that isn't an upconverter, it is an analog to SDI converter only.

A good place to start is always the Tech Spec section of the product in question:
http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/miniconverters/techspecs/
- As you can see in "Extras" / "Format Conversion" section: this product has none, but the SDI to analog product does give you HD to SD down conversion.

For UpDownCross conversions you need a product named Mini Converter UpDownCross.
It is purely SDI in / SDI out device for these conversions.

Your answer confirmed what I thought was true but wasn't sure. Thank you very much!
