Use BM Cinema Camera with Atem

PostTue Aug 28, 2012 9:40 am

Hello,

Do you plan to add progressive resolution to ATEM, we want to use 8 x BM Cinema Camera with an Atem 2 ME...

Thanks.

We don't typically discuss specific future plans like that. But I think many people would like to see more format support added to the ATEM line.

I have an ATEM TVStudio, while progressive input would be welcomed.
Another alternative would be a mini converter to convert P to Psf
BMD Products:
ATEM Television Studio, Micro Videohub, GPI&Tally
Hyperdeck Studio, Mini Monitor, Mini Recorder
HDMI->SDI Battery Converter (2)
SmartView HD, SmartScope Duo 4K
Ultrastudio 4K, Multidock, MFT BMCC

That would allow the signal to pass but the output would still essentially be interlaced, meaning instead of the fields being displayed as progressive they'd be offset 1/60th. Not necessarily ideal.

But all of these suggestions are being heard. These things all take time.

Josh, I agree it is not the ideal and I would dearly like the P option on the ATEM.

My live productions, are 'live recordings' rather than 'live broadcasts'.
Deinterlacing after the event is, while not optimal, a viable option in my circumstance.

The best/only option I have found so far (pending updates) is an AJA UDC mini converter.
This is solely from reading specs.

Kevin, I think the way it's more than likely going to have to be done (to look correct anyway), is the BMCC is going to have to be able to output 1080p60 (not capture, just live pass-through via HD-SDI), and then a cross-converter from 1080p to 1080i (or 720p).

The reason I say this is because I don't think the ATEM switchers have the hardware for mixing signal types (720p, 1080i, 1080p all at once). Or maybe they do.

Mike, your correct. The ATEM/s requires all inputs are the same standard.

One possible scenario (the day my camera arrives?), is 2 x GH2 which when recording in HBR (25P) mode, output PsF via the HDMI. If the hardware of the BMDCC is capable of sending a 50i PsF signal over the SDI .. Then I believe I could record 3 cameras live, deinterlace/conform overnight, and deliver a progressive product the following day.
