ATEM HDMI Preview often sends no signal.

PostMon Aug 03, 2015 5:09 pm

This has been happening a few times too often. It will be on and then it disappears sometimes never coming back. What can be causing this. I thought it was the monitor, changed it and still the same. Help

Probably heat. Try a fan on the back.
Most black magic gear has problems caused by too much heat.

I had the some problem with my Atem TVS. I bought 2 x 120mm fans and problem solved.

I attach 2 pictures with the fans.

Hi Timothy,

Which version of the ATEM firmware are you currently running on the switcher? If you haven't already, try updating to ATEM 6.5 to see if the behavior changes.

Just to clarify, are you referring to the HDMI Program or Multiview output?

How does the SDI Program and/or Multiview Output work? Do they experience the same issue?

How do you have the ATEM TVS installed? Is it in an air conditioned room and well ventilated?

The multiview on the ATEM does not output 1080p, only 1080i59.94

Experiencing the exact same problem - I realise Blackmagic equipment runs hot, but it's very poor design if you need to add forced cooling to get it working properly!

At least on the TVS you don't need to void your warranty by opening it up to add the ventilation BMD should have included. On the new atems, studio converter etc you have to void warranty opening them, otherwise they will die an unrepairable death due to excess heat soon after the warranty expires.
I've come to the conclusion you are better off cracking all BMD gear open the day you buy it, and adding fans.

Even the mini converters get really hot.
I wonder how hot grant petty runs the heater in his house.
